Joanna Lumley is known to many for playing the role of Patsy Stone in Absolutely Fabulous. As well as the iconic performance, she has showcased her talents as a model, author and television producer.

Joanna was born in India in 1946, but was brought up in Kent, England.

She began working as a model in the 1960s and worked for three years as a photographic model.

While she had no formal drama training, Joanna began her acting career in 1969 with a small role in the film Some Girls Do.

The role was uncredited but was quickly followed with a job as a bond girl in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service the same year.

The actor continued to top up her bank balance with a brief stint on Coronation Street where she played Elaine Perkins.

As well as working in TV, the popular actress landed roles in films including James and the Giant Peach, the Corpse Bride and the Wolf of Wall Street.

In 1992, Joanna played the role of Patsy Stone across from Jennifer Saunders in Absolutely Fabulous.

She portrayed the character on and off from 1992 until 2016, when Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie was released.

The film grossed $39.2million, or around £28.8million, at the box office worldwide.

This included huge £14million earnings from the UK box office alone.

The TV star won many awards for her role as the memorable character, including two BAFTAs.

Joanna added to her wealth with the release of a number of books, including three memoirs.

These included Stare Back and Smile: Memoirs in 1989, No Room for Secrets, released in 2005, and Absolutely in 2011.

She has continued to work in television as a voiceover artist and television presenter.

In 2010, she worked as an executive producer and presenter for ITV and has hosted other documentaries for BBC.

The actor has publicly used her high profile and earnings to help various campaigns and charities over the years.

She is the patron of charities including Trust in Children, Earth Restoration Service and CHANCE for Nepal.
