The royals brought their fashion A-game to St. Paul’s Cathedral today for a Service of Thanksgiving in honor of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The Queen was unable to attend due to mobility issues and “discomfort” after yesterday’s Trooping the Colour balcony appearance, but her family came out in full force to honor their matriarch.
Kate Middleton looked sunny in a gorgeous yellow dress with a criss-cross waist — a custom piece by Emilia Wickstead — and a matching buttercup colored hat with floral detail by Philip Treacy as she was joined by Prince William for the tribute to her grandmother-in-law.
She paid homage to the Queen with her jewelry — the duchess borrowed a pair of the monarch’s earrings, wearing her Bahrain Pearl drops.
Middleton previously wore the pearls to a more somber occasion, sporting them at Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021, fitting as the jewels were part of a wedding gift given to Elizabeth for her 1947 wedding to Philip.
Princess Diana also once wore the baubles to a banquet at Hampton Court Palace during a state visit from Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus of the Netherlands.
The 40-year-old royal added neutral accessories to her yellow look, choosing Gianvito Rossi suede heels ($725) and a tan clutch.
On Thursday, to kick off the events, Middleton also borrowed significant jewels, sported a pair of sapphire drop earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana, paired with a matching necklace and her iconic engagement ring.
Friday’s service was a memorable reunion as Prince William and Middleton, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie and more gathered to mark Her Majesty’s 70 years on the throne.
Hundreds of cheering, flag-waving fans lined the streets surrounding the cathedral as members of the royal family drove up to its grand stairs for the historic event — the first time a monarch has ever reached seven decades of service to the British people.
All eyes were on the Sussexes as Markle — making her first public appearance in the UK since the couple left their royal roles behind in 2020 — looked elegant in head-to-toe Dior.
The Duchess of Sussex, 40, looked unbothered as some boos came from the crowd, holding Prince Harry’s hand as she walked up the stairs in a belted grey coat with a trench-style flap at the back from the Haute Couture spring/summer 2022 collection.
Underneath, she wore a wool and silk skirt by the brand paired with an organza shirt. The duchess added a grey Dior hat and chic gloves, a Cartier Love bracelet and a Maison Birks diamond snowflake earrings ($13,300) she’s worn on previous occasions.
Princess Beatrice, joined by her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, wore a cheerful, belted blue crepe midi dress by Beulah London ($974).
The princess — who had a secret lockdown wedding in 2020 — added a blue silk hat by Juliette Millinery ($690), pairing it with a whimsical accessory: a sparkly blue-and-white Sophia Webster clutch that said “Wifey for Lifey.”
Meanwhile, her sister, Princess Eugenie, sported a bold orange dress by Emilia Wickstead ($2,249) featuring a high neck and cut-out back. She paired it with black slingback pumps from the same brand ($710), a black fascinator and black YSL clutch.
The future Queen Consort, Camilla, looked lovely as she joined Prince Charles and family for the service, wearing a white coat dress with detailed platinum embroidery, perfectly on-brand for the Platinum Jubilee.
Inside, the Cambridges and Sussexes were seated on opposite sides of the aisle — perhaps to avoid a repeat of the awkward Commonwealth Day event that was the last public engagement Harry and Meghan attended in 2020.
Today’s service follows Thursday’s Trooping the Colour event when we saw British pomp and pageantry along with an array of coordinated blue outfits.
Fashion fans have a day at the races to look forward to tomorrow when the Cazoo Derby at Epsom Downs welcomes the royals to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.
