Kate Middletons close friendships – from uni pals to royals

The Princess of Wales has always had a group of close knit friends, some who she met at university or school while others she got to know through her husband Prince William.

Kate, 40, and William, also 40, have grown close to each other's pals throughout the years after meeting at St Andrews University and starting a relationship.

The mum-of-three has friends who have remained by her side through school, marriage and having children, and after joining the Royal Family she's also formed close bonds with certain Royals, such as Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

Here we take a look at the Princess of Wales' friendship group…

Sophie, Countess of Wessex

After joining the Royal Family in 2011, Kate sparked up a friendship with Sophie, Countess of Wessex, who is married to Prince Edward.

Kate and Sophie have been photographed together at numerous events over the years, including Wimbledon, Royal Ascot and several Royal weddings.

Lady Laura & James Meade

James Meade and his wife Lady Laura Meade are close pals with both Kate and Prince William.

James, the son of Olympian Richard Meade, attended Eton with Prince William and the duo have remained close pals ever since.

He is married to Lady Laura, the daughter of Julian Marsham, 8th Earl of Romney, who Kate and William have both grown close to.

She is Prince Louis' godmother while James is Princess Charlotte's godfather, and he was also an usher at William and Kate's wedding in 2011.

Emilia & David Jardine-Peterson

Emilia formed a friendship with the Princess of Wales at Marlborough College and the pair's bond has remained strong all these years later.

When Kate and William hit a rocky patch in 2007, Kate jetted off to Ibiza with Emilia for a break. Emilia's husband David also attended Eton with Prince William.

Kate and Emilia are so close that she even helped the mum-of-three decorate both Kensington Palace and Anmer Hall, and she's also one of Prince George's godmothers.

Oliver Baker

Oliver studied at St Andrew's University, where he got to know both Kate and William, who he formed close friendships with.
He is one of Prince George's godfathers.

Sophie Carter

Sophie is pals with many members of the Royal Family and the Middleton family, having attended Pippa Middleton's wedding as well as Harry and Meghan's nuptials.

She's been photographed with William and Kate on numerous occasions and is one of Princess Charlotte's godmothers. Sophie also had Charlotte as a bridesmaid at her wedding.

Thomas van Straubenzee

Thomas van Straubenzee attended Ludgrove prep school alongside Prince William and he was also an usher at the Royal's wedding.

William then returned the favour when Thomas got married in 2013 and Thomas is also Princess Charlotte's godfather.

Hannah Carter

Hannah and Kate go way back, with the pair having attended school together when they were younger.

She's also befriended William, who attended Sophie's wedding to Robert Carter with Kate. Sophie is Prince Louis' godmother.

Guy Pelly

Nightclub owner Guy Pelly befriended Prince William and his younger brother Prince Harry during a fox hunt in 2001.

The trio clearly hit it off, with Guy going on to help organise William's bachelor party and having both Princes at his own wedding in 2014.

Guy is Prince Louis' godfather.
