Katherine Ryan’s relationship with Bobby Koostra from teenage romance to pregnancy announcement

Katherine Ryan recently announced that she's expecting her second child with her husband Bobby Kootstra, with the comedian sharing the news on her podcast, Katherine Ryan: Telling Everybody Everything.

The 39 year old already shares on Fred, one, with Bobby, 38, and she's also mum to daughter Violet, 11, from a previous relationship.

Announcing the happy news, the mum-of-two said: "You guys know I'm pregnant, I've been pregnant for a while and here's how I did that. I got pregnant while breastfeeding the first time I tried and, to be honest with you, I didn't think it's going to work because I'm 39 – I would have been 38 when I got pregnant."

As Katherine and Bobby get set to become parents again, here we take a look into their romance including how they met…

Katherine and Bobby first dated when they were teenagers over 20 years ago and living in Canada, and then they reconciled when Katherine returned to her hometown while filming an episode of Who Do You Think You Are?.

Chatting about their romance, Katherine said on The Jonathan Ross Show: “During filming I went for a night out with my sister and bumped into my first love Bobby – we dated for about a year when I was fifteen and then we split.

“I haven’t seen him in 20 years. I’m in an old jumper, he looked like a full blood Hemsworth brother, just hot…I hadn’t seen him in 20 years.

“Of course [I recognised him] I’m the one with the whole new face, Jonathan! I really did like him at the time. When we were young, I was deeply in love with him. We were prom king and queen.”

In 2019, Katherine and Bobby entered into a civil partnership and the ceremony took place in Denmark with Katherine's daughter Violet present.

Speaking about their civil partnership, the comedian said on The Jonathan Ross Show: “It was a lovely day.

“It’s perfect having a civil partner. We didn’t have a wedding, I didn’t need to put on a white dress and pretend to be a virgin, that ship has sailed!”

The pair welcomed their first child together, Fred, back in 2021 and Katherine has continued to document her life as a mum-of-two on social media.

Katherine previously opened up on the backlash she received after saying she had potty trained Fred when he was just eight months old.

"I didn't care. The reason that I share some of my parenting viewpoints, let's call them, is because I understand that they are unconventional," she told OK!

"I never want to shame any other parent or judge them for the way that they choose to train their children or raise their children, but I just feel like it's always useful to get a different perspective and to think outside the box."

"The way that I parent is unconventional. I respond to my children's needs immediately, I tour with them, I sleep with Fred – not Violet, obviously, she's too grown up, and I'm a boomer and a Karen, apparently – but I think it's good to offer people an alternative because I'm all about choice and variety."

She added: "I feel like you don't have to go by the book when it comes to parenting."
