LeBron James is getting into the culinary space by investing in a new livestreaming platform for the food-obsessed, Page Six can exclusively reveal.
The Los Angeles Lakers star invested in Kittch, a place for foodies to interact and learn from some of the most famous chefs in the world.
James’ entrance into the food world should come as no surprise, as the legendary basketball player, 37, is debatably as obsessed with nutrition as he is basketball.
James’ diet is so strict he has a different routine for preseason, postseason, pregame and postgame.
“Before competition for me would be like a chicken breast and maybe a little pasta. The carbs help because you’re going out and playing a lot of minutes,” he once told Business Insider. “But a salad and some veggies will have me perfectly fine. And before the game I might have a protein shake and some fruit, and I’ll be ready to go.”
Co-founded by Classic Sports Network/ESPN Classic and CBS Sports Network maven Brian Bedol, Kittch can be described as the Twitch-TikTok-Zoom of culinary. Bedol’s idea sprouted from the COVID-19 pandemic when he noticed his chef friends were hurting and realized there was an untapped market in digital for them.
Sources tell Page Six that Kittch, which has been in beta for about three or four months, officially launches to the public Tuesday, which also happens to be International Women’s Day. We’re told that for every new registration, Kittch will donate to a women’s hospitality initiative, as its goal is also to address food insecurity and other societal issues.
Celebrity chefs already involved in Kittch include Marcus Samuelsson, Amanda Freitag, Amanda Schulman and many more. Sources tell us that professional chefs looking to join the app as creators will undergo a screening process. Kittch will look to add home cooks down the line.
The bulk of Kittch’s content, including 24/7 livestreams as chefs prepare meals from their homes or their restaurants, will be free to access, but users will also have the option to pay for classes.
Kittch is also co-founded by Elana Karp, the head chef at Plated, and Doug DeLuca, a co-executive producer of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Other founding members include Chris Bianco of Pizzeria Bianco and James Beard-winning chef Chris Shepard.
