Lily Allen looks very chic with a glossy ‘French bob’ and micro fringe

In case you haven’t heard, a bob is the best accessory you can wear for A/W22. Lily Allen has clearly paid attention to the news because she’s sporting a very chic new short bob.

Though she’s been a bob wearer for quite some time now, Lily has just gone for her shortest look yet, debuting the glossy crop on Instagram this week. This style is dubbed a “French bob” by hair experts, which typically tends to be shorter than a traditional chin-skimming bob. The Parisian look is also characterised by the addition of a blunt fringe.

“Shopping excursion,” Lily captions a new Instagram grid photo of herself and her new hair.

Lily’s 1.5 million followers have nothing but compliments to dish out on the star and her trendy haircut.

“I love your hair,” says one, while a second adds: “The bob is killer.”

A third writes: “I love those bangs.”

According to experts, now is the perfect time to get involved in the French bob trend as the look is only set to become more and more in demand as we continue into winter.

“Winter sees the bob take on a Parisian feel with a statement fringe and wavy, undone texture,” explains Jordanna Cobella, Wella Professionals digital craft expert and Cobella salon owner. “This cut perfectly frames the neck and jawline. We also call it the ‘Amelie bob’, and it really helps to create structure and definition, flattering most face shapes. It’s also such a transitional look for those growing out a pixie or a short cut.”

Though Lily wears her Amelie bob perfectly sleek and glossy, Jordanna says this cut is worn best with a slight wave and texture. To do this, before blow-drying, spritz the hair with Wella Professionals EIMI Sugar Lift, £12.50 here, as this lightweight styling spray creates hold and texture and allows you to create a “lived-in”, sexy look.

If you’re interested in other short hair trends, Rob Eaton, British Hairdresser of the Year, says the “power pixie” is also set to be a key look for A/W.

“Inspired by Mia Farrow's classic pixie cut, we're seeing a modern take on the style as we move into winter. Worn with a choppy side fringe and longer layers at the back, this modern pixie cut takes inspiration from the classic cut,” Rob says.

“It’s perfect for those with a round, oval, or heart-shaped face, the short layers help create angles and definition around the jawline.”

There you have it, plenty of inspo for your next salon trip.
