Lizzo expertly quoted Nicki Minaj in an epic clapback moment aimed at comedian Aries Spears at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards.
While accepting the Moon Person for Video for Good (for her hit “About Damn Time”) on Sunday, the multifaceted musician, 34, thanked her fans and then said into the mic, “And now, to the bitches that got something to say about me in the press…”
While Minaj’s almost identical opener at the 2015 VMAs was directed at then-host Miley Cyrus – and followed by the now famous line, “Miley, what’s good?” – Lizzo took a slightly different approach.
“You know what? I’m not gonna say nothing,” she told the crowd at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. “They be like, ‘Lizzo, why don’t you clap back? Why don’t you clap back?’
