A security guard whose life was transformed after scooping a $20million lottery jackpot was killed by his sister-in-law and her boyfriend, in a plot to steal his money.
Nine years after Jeffrey Dampier's Illinois state lottery win in 1996 he was shot in the back of the head in his van by the very woman he bailed out when she fell on hard times.
After divorcing his first wife, splitting the winnings 50/50, Dampier, from Chicago’s West Side, met Crystal Jackson, who he eventually married before they moved to Tampa, Florida, to open a gourmet popcorn store.

Generous with his winnings, especially to Jackson’s side of the family, Dampier spent lavishly on cruises and gifts, but one person he helped he was also having an affair with.
When his sisters-in-law, Victoria Jackson, fell on hard times, Dampier offered to take care of their finances, but at the time he was also seeing her behind his wife's back.
Despite years of things seemingly going well for Dampier, the story took a dark turn in 2005 with a man called Nathaniel Jackson, who Victoria was also dating.
Nathaniel knew about Jeffrey Dampier’s money and came up with a plan to get his hands on it with Victoria’s help.

According to some sources, Dampier was lured to the Jacksons' apartment by Victoria Jackson, who claimed that she had car problems.
When Dampier showed up to help, Nathaniel pulled out a shotgun and forced him into a van.
Dampier then had his hands bound behind his back with shoe strings while Victoria drove the van.
Nathaniel repeatedly hit Dampier with the butt of the gun, demanding that he turn over his money.
When Dampier proved uncooperative, Nathaniel and Victoria switched places so she could try to reason with him.
Finally, Nathaniel handed the gun to Victoria.
According to police, he demanded that Victoria “Shoot him, or I shoot you."
Victoria then fired a single shot into the back of Dampier’s skull, killing him almost instantly.
Victoria Jackson was tried and found guilty of first-degree murder, armed kidnapping and armed carjacking in 2006. She was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences. Nathaniel Jackson was prosecuted similarly.
