Louis Theroux is best known for his television series Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends, and now the presenter appears in the new BBC show Louis Theroux interviews where he sits down with a host of stars for interviews.
According to CelebrityNetWorth, Louis Theroux has a fortune of $4million, which is around £3.5million.
But how did he make so much money?
Born in Singapore, Louis later attended the prestigious Westminster School in London.
Theroux studied history at university and wrote film reviews in the Grapevine magazine.
He then began working as a journalist for Metro Silicon Valley in San Jose, California, and wrote for Spy magazine.
The presenter also worked for other publications including Hip-Hop Connection and The Idler.
Theroux started in television presenting offbeat segments on Michael Moore’s TV Nation series and in 1998, he released his own documentary, Weird Weekends, which lasted until 2000.
Speaking of the series, he said: “Setting out to discover the genuinely odd in the most ordinary setting.
“To me, it’s almost a privilege to be welcomed into these communities and to shine a light on them and, maybe, through my enthusiasm, to get people to reveal more of themselves than they may have intended.
“The show is laughing at me, adrift in their world, as much as at them. I don’t have to play up that stuff. I’m not a matinee idol disguised as a nerd.”
The star later presented When Louis Met… featuring British celebrities as well as several BBC Two specials.
He also published a book titled The Call of the Weird: Travels in American Subcultures in 2005.
In 2006, Louis signed a new deal with the BBC to see him make 10 films over the course of three years.
A few years later, he added to his fortune with the release of his feature-length documentary, My Scientology Movie, which was screened in cinemas.
Theroux received two British Academy Television Awards and a Royal Television Society Television Award.
The TV personality owns a house in Harlesden, London, where he lives with his wife Nancy Strang and their three children: Albert, Frederick and Walter.
The presenter reportedly bought a colonial home in Los Angeles, California, for which he paid $1.1million, around £1million, it is said.
He previously talked about lockdown at home with the family and how it was at times a struggle: “On one occasion the kids were just acting up and I just lost my s*** royally and I found that for two or three days subsequently, I couldn’t speak.
“I could whisper but that was it. I thought I’d broken my vocal cords, and for a while I wondered whether I might never be able to be in broadcasting again.
“As much as I’d like to be poised and reflective and to be a considered, mature and rather humorous individual in every aspect of my life. The reality is that I’m just as rage-prone as everyone else,” he told The Mirror.
Louis was previously married to Susanna Kleeman, but the couple divorced in 2001.
