A man has sparked a furious online debate after sharing a picture of a locked up four-pint bottle of milk in his work fridge.
While some offices may be blessed with getting a fresh delivery of milk every morning, it seems like this one isn’t.
Therefore, one person has gone to extreme measures by not only buying their own milk – but also locking it up with a specially designed device.
The image, that was posted by @Vented55 on Reddit, has gone viral.
And social media users cannot work out if this move is petty or justifiable, with some saying they ‘totally agree’, while others have branded the method of protecting the bottle ‘strange’.
Petty or justifiable – what do you think?
The picture, which is captioned ‘Peak pettiness or justifiable security in the office kitchen?’, has one blue bottle top milk and two green top’s in the fridge.
In the middle, it looks like one worker has purchased a specially adapted lock that has been placed on the neck and lid of the bottle.
In order to secure it, there is a U-shaped bar going between and underneath the handle of the milk bottle.
The image has garnered over 8,000 votes and 1,300 comments – at the time of writing – as social media users on Reddit cannot work out how they feel about the post.
There were plenty of people who said that the move was ‘not petty’, as they found justifiable reasons behind the lock-up.
One person who agreed with the move wrote: ‘Justifiable, because some t**t has forced a person to become petty.’
While another said: ‘It’s not any more petty than using a locker to store your belongings, or locking up your bike. It’s not petty to stop people from stealing your stuff.’
Another person explained that due to personal experience, they agree with the move.
Users on Reddit were left divided by the viral image. Some said they agreed with the move, while others have branded the method of protecting the bottle ‘strange’
They wrote: ‘I bought an Udderlok for my milk at work and it worked fine for a few weeks, but then I think some thief took it as a challenge and pretty much ripped the carton apart to steal the milk.’
And a fourth put: ‘100% justifiable if some thieving t**t has been nicking what they paid for.’
A fifth user also wrote: ‘Shame that it is necessary. Thieving colleagues are not a pleasant thing. But as it is necessary, absolutely the right thing to do.’
And another chimed in saying: ‘Having had someone steal my food in work, I totally agree.’
Meanwhile, those who disagreed with the move wrote: ‘I find kitchen politics to be so strange . It’s so straight forward and rules should be in place but we like to mock each other for expecting basic respect , like imagine having to go to these lengths ?’
And another person put: ‘It is petty, but justifiably so.’
A second Reddit user simply wrote: ‘Brilliant. Justified.’
While one user said that they also agreed with the system of locking up the milk, explaining: ‘I budget for the whole week for my food. I am not in a dire situation, I just like sticking to a budget. When people take some of the food, that means I have to spend extra.’
One more person wrote: ‘It’s your food. Protect that shit from a*****s.’
A second said: ”It’s only petty if you’re the one who keeps stealing it and now you can’t.’
Another person jokingly put: ‘It’s only petty if you’re the one who keeps stealing it and now you can’t.’
But others were left sitting on the fence, with one writing: ‘It’s kind of both at once. If people didn’t take what’s not theirs there would be no need. I wouldn’t go that far with milk but people lost food at the last place I was at. 12 hour shift with no food ain’t a joke.’
While another was left shocked at the fact that something as simple as a pint of milk was not being provided to them by their workplace, writing: ‘It always surprises me when I see people working for companies that don’t supply things like milk.’
And another Reddit user chimed in saying: ‘Offices should keep the fridge stocked with stuff like this for there employees.’
