Manchester United vs Sevilla betting preview

The treble is still in sight for Manchester United. The Red Devils have already added the Carabao Cup to their trophy cabinet, and could still clinch the FA Cup and Europa League this season.

Erik ten Hag's side bounced back from their lacklustre 2-0 defeat to Newcastle with comfortable victories over Brentford and Everton. The six points have them in fourth position, three points ahead of Tottenham having played a match less.

With a top-four finish looking increasingly likely, Manchester United can focus on European silverware, and will want a first-leg advantage in Manchester ahead of the reverse fixture with Sevilla next week.

Sevilla are a bit of an enigma. The Spanish heavyweights have a tremendous history in this competition having won the title SIX times since 2006.

But this has been a season to forget. They sit 13th in the LaLiga table, just five points clear of the relegation zone with ten matches remaining. It's perhaps no wonder they've struggled given Jose Luis Mendilibar is the club's third manager of the season, after the departures of Julen Lopetegui and Jorge Sampaoli.

They do, however, have fond memories of this fixture having dumped United out of the Europa League at the last-four stage in 2020.

Manchester United vs Sevilla best bets

Man Utd to win to nil

As mentioned, Manchester United have been formidable on home turf and Sevilla have been dreadful on the road. The Spanish outfit have taken 13 points from a possible 42 in LaLiga away games, and finally broke a four-match losing streak against Cadiz recently.

Not only have results been poor, but goals have been in short supply away from home. They've failed to register a goal in four of their last seven on the road, conceding 2+ in four of those fixtures.

The Red Devils have three clean sheets in their last four at Old Trafford, and should pick up another against a side eager to keep it tight.

Marcos Acuna to be booked

Sevilla aren't shy of a booking or two. In fact, they've had ten yellows and two reds in their last two matches. Their red card tally for the campaign now stands at 11.

Marcos Acuna isn't afraid either having collected nine cautions in 34 appearances this season, including a red card in the weekend clash against Celta Vigo.

The 31-year-old full-back could be set for a nightmare evening, especially with Brazilian Antony running at him. Antony is United's fifth most fouled player in the Premier League this year.

Felix Zwayer is in charge in Thursday, and has dished out 125 cards in 30 matches, giving him an average of 4.1 cards per match.

Manchester United to score a penalty

Given Sevilla's disciplinary issues and Manchester United are playing at home, a penalty doesn't seem out of the question on Thursday.

Sevilla conceded a penalty in their previous round victory over Fenerbahce, and referee Felix Zwayer has awarded three spot-kicks in his four UCL matches this season.
