MARTIN Lewis and his MoneySavingExpert team have revealed how parents can save cash over the summer holidays.

Families are feeling the pinch with soaring food, energy and fuel bills.

And with a long six week break on the horizon, parents may be worrying about how they are going to keep their kids fed and entertained.

But in the money mogul's latest newsletter, he has shared his top three tips for cutting the cost of meals and activities.

Help with meals

If your child gets free school meals during term time, you could qualify for extra help during the school holidays.

The Holiday Activity and Food Programme (HAF) in England gives kids aged 4 and over at least one free meal a day and access to activities.

Martin Lewis is urging parents to apply now because access isn't automatic.

It is run by councils so the way you apply varies across the country.

Every council offers the equivalent of six week's of support per year to all eligible children.

You can find your local council by using the government's find your council too.

Martin helps to breakdown the application process, and what you are entitled to, in this handy guide.

If your child isn't eligible for free school meals, there are other ways you can save on meals.

Morrisons Café is offering a Kids Eat Free deal for dinner and lunch, while children eating at an Asda café can get a meal for £1.

Save on activities

Martin says there are lots of cheap days out, including free tennis coaching and Disney drawing, for children to take advantage of.

Cineworld's Movies for Juniors allows kids to get a £2.50 tickets for kids aged under 14.

Children must be accompanied by an adult to be eligible for the discount.

You should also be aware that if you book online, you will have to pay 75p per ticket.

Odeon and Vue also have similar offers for kids at weekends and in the school holidays.

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) is hosting free tennis sessions or coaching at more than 100 venues across England, Scotland and Wales.

MSE has complied a list of cheap days out including theme parks and museums.

Charities can help

Martin says it is always worth checking with charities if you are struggling financially this summer.

Many offer grants for help with things such as household bills, clothing and even holidays.

MSE recommends trying using Turn2Us grant search to see what support you could be eligible for.

The Family Holiday Charity helps families get away together during the holidays, but you will need a social worker or teacher to refer you.

Where can I get help during the cost of living crisis?

There are a number of charities and organizations that may be able to help you piece your finances back together.

Energy suppliers also have schemes in place where you can apply for free grants to put towards your energy bills.

You can also apply to wipe your energy debt clear, or get money for energy efficient appliances.

Councils also have schemes you can apply to – such as the Household Support Fund and welfare assistance programmes.

You can also get up to £1,000 in cash if you apply to your local council's welfare assistance scheme.
