Martin Lewis returning with a brand new series of his Money Show Live on ITV on Thursday evening. While energy was top of his agenda, the money saving expert wanted to share a few clever ways shoppers could get free cash for recycling. He also mentioned a few retailers who were giving away free products when you returned empty pots and packaging.

Between September 20 and 26, the UK promotions National Recycling Week.

And it a bid to get more households reusing and saving items from going to landfill, big retailers are offering cashback and free products when customers recycling items.

See below for the companies handing out free cash or products when you recycle.

H&M

Thinking of updating your wardrobe? Have a look to see whether you’ve got some old items you could recycle to get a money off voucher.

H&M has a money clothes recycling scheme that will reward you with a £5 off and 20 loyalty points if you’re a H&M member.

All you have to do is donate a bag of old clothes or unwanted garments.

Clothing can be from any brand, not just H&M and in any condition.

You can also recycle any kind of textile, whether it’s curtains, shoes, towels, old knickers etc.

As for the voucher T&C’s to spend the £5 in store or online, you must have £25 or more in your basket.

Marks & Spencer

Marks & Spencer partnered with Oxfam back in 2008 and launched Swhopping – an easy way to give unwanted clothes a second life.

Every Shwopped item makes a difference and Oxfam knows how to make the most money out of every single item.

Unwanted clothes donated by the public to Oxfam shops or in M&S stores are turned into millions of pounds every year – whether by selling them in our shops, selling them overseas or recycling them.

But nothing ends up in a landfill.

So how does it work?

Anyone who has M&S clothes that they are looking to get rid of, can bag them up and take them to their local Oxfam or M&S store.

The clothing must be clean, undamaged and M&S branded.

Underwear, socks or swimwear will not be accepted.

In return, a £5 voucher will be issued to spend in M&S on orders over £35 – but you can’t spend that on M&S Food.

Since the partnership began, over 28 million garments have been donated in M&S and Oxfam shops, worth an estimated £19 million for the charity.

MAC

MAC accepts returns of its primary packaging through the Back to MAC Program.

By returning six MAC primary packaging containers to a M·A·C counter, you’ll receive a free M·A·C lipstick of your choice.

The lipsticks are priced at £17.50 and excludes Viva Glam Lipstick and Limited Edition Lipstick.

“That’s an ongoing deal so if you use MAC and you haven’t got enough, don’t throw them away, keep store of them because it’s always helpful,” Martin explained.
