In today’s beauty nostalgia news Maura Higgins has brought back a very retro hair trend in the form of crimping, and we’re kind of obsessed with it.
The 31 year old shared a series of snaps from her work with lingerie brand Ann Summers, one of which features her hair worn in two ponytails and styled in the classic zig-zag pattern.
The look is completed with a bold lip and red eyeshadow to match the lingerie set. “I see red,” Maura simply captioned the snap before tagging the brand in the ad post.
Many of Maura’s 3.3 million followers rushed to the comments section of the post to compliment Maura on the look, with many exclaiming that she looks “insane” in the sizzling snaps.
"Wow love everything about this… the hair @carlbembridgehair unreal!" one fan commented, while another asked a friend, “When are we crimping our hair?”
Meanwhile a third enthused, “Oh my goodness @maurahiggins you look more amazing than ever!” as a fourth said, “Told you crimping would come back around”.
One begged the star, “Please tell me what you used to get those curls, they’re unreal!” – to which her hairdresser Carl helpfully responded, “ghdhairpro @ghdhair crimpers”.
That said, we do have a bit of bad news if you’re hoping to get your hands on this exact tool.
Sadly the ghd Contour crimper was a limited edition gadget for the 2017 autumn/winter season only, so you may have a hard time tracking one down. But there are some other models on the market should you wish to recreate Maura’s 90s hair look for yourself.
For an affordable alternative, try Mark Hill’s Crimper Pick n Mix Crimper Barrel and Handle, £16.99 here and £17.99 here, or BaByliss Pro Crimper, £28 here.
Who knows, maybe crimping will be all the rage again for 2022. Happy zig-zagging!
