To mark the end of mask and vaccine mandates in New York, the city’s party-hopping Mayor Eric Adams celebrated at a downtown club. (Where else would he be?)
On Monday, Adams took in Braxton Cook’s sold-out show at the Blue Note with his team including City Hall’s Office of Nightlife whiz Ariel Palitz, Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives Sheena Wright and President of NYC & Company President Fred Dixon.
Adams hopped on stage and gave an impromptu speech, encouraging concertgoers to “hit the right note” as the city moves beyond the pandemic.
“We’re going to inspire our children to understand this is a moment where we’re all going to recover, but we need each other,” he told the crowd. “I’m here tonight to say to you, as you enjoy the Blue Note, let’s hit the right note as we move forward in the years to come,” he added.
A concertgoer described the off-the-cuff speech as “heartfelt” and “electric.”
“There was something about being in a jazz club like Blue Note because New Yorkers hit the right notes. It was because everyone did the right thing and nothing can stop New York,” the inspired attendee told us.
Another source told us that Adams and his team were “celebrating the first night of not having to go to a bar or restaurant and share your vaccine status.”
“He was extremely well-received… it was a very amazing evening. The show was sold out,” the source said.
An insider told us that Adams had been out “since the morning, visiting restaurants. It was all a part of the celebration of the lifting of the key to the NYC mandate. He was out in every corner of the city celebrating this new milestone.”
