Have you ever imagined what a Jaffa Cake mixed with a doughnut would look like? No? Well, McVitie's clearly have, and they’ve made one which looks delicious.

Introducing the Jonut – a cross between Jaffa Cakes and doughnuts and sure to make your mouth water.

The Jonut is shaped in a ring like a doughnut and it has the appearance of the icon Jaffa Cake, with a layer of chocolate on top and orange filling running through the sponge base.

The tasty little creation will boast more of a doughnut texture than usual Jaffa Cakes, and Biscuit maker McVitie's could well have pulled off the next sweet craze.

Cronuts were first created in 2013 in New York, as a mix of croissants and doughnuts, and they quickly became a hugely popular treat.

Since, there have been a range of creations much like them, from the yumnut which is a cross between a doughnut and a yum yum, and the sconut, which is a quirky mix of doughnut and scone.

Now, it’s the turn of the Jonut to tantalise the taste buds of lovers of all things sweet.

You can get your hands on the delicious new offering from Sunday16 May, when they’ll be on supermarket shelves.

They come in packs of four for £1.99, or you could see if you like them first and try an individually wrapped Jonut for 60p.

Emma Stowers, brand director for McVitie's at parent firm Pladis, said: “We love hearing Jaffanatics debate about our Jaffa Cakes, and the launch of our Jaffa Jonuts is sure to spark further conversation.

"We’re excited to offer a new twist to our fans, as the fusion between Jaffa Cakes and doughnuts brings an exciting and original taste experience to those who love a treat.”

The Jonut isn’t the first variation of the original cake, with orange, pineapple, cherry and passion fruit flavours having been introduced.

There are also Jaffa Cake bars and mini rolls which are both highly popular treats.
