Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has again felt the wrath of a number of royal fans. This time Prince Harry‘s wife is being accused of trying to upstage one of the youngest members of the royal family. Some are now rushing to the former Suits star’s defense after she was attacked online by those who say she tried to take all the attention away from Prince Louis on his big day.
A photo of Archie appeared online hours before Prince Louis’ birthday
Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge‘s youngest son celebrated his birthday on April 23. The occasion was marked by a photo of the little prince on the Cambridges’ Twitter and Instagram accounts the day before, which also happened to be the day a photo of Meghan with her son, Archie, circulated online. That circumstance had several social media users questioning the timing and accusing the Duchess of Sussex of purposely leaking a rare photo of her son to take the attention off Prince Louis.
“Fascinating timing here,” one person tweeted. While another responded, “Gotta try and upstage the Cambridges somehow.”
“Heavily pregnant and as usual right on time,” a third user commented.
“The photo is so well staged,” a fourth person opined.
Another added: “Just at the same time Kensington Palace released a picture of P. Louis for his birthday tomorrow. What a coincidence…said no one ever.”
The duchess has been accused of trying to upstage other members of the family
Meghan’s fans were quick to defend the duchess pointing out that the photo was taken by paparazzi in Los Angeles and she had no way of knowing when it would be released publicly. Some though recalled other times where it seemed to them that Meghan and Harry made the headlines on the exact days that other royals had special occasions.
Some of those examples included in 2018 when the Sussexes’ reportedly told the royal family they were expecting their son the day of Princess Eugenie’s wedding. Then in February 2021, just days after Eugenie gave birth to her and Jack Brooksbanks’ first child, Meghan and Harry announced they were expecting their second baby.
And of course the Sussexes’ bombshell Megxit news was shared via social media on Jan. 8, 2020; one day before the Duchess of Cambridge’s birthday which was then completely overshadowed.
Meghan was also criticized over leaked details of flowers for Philip’s funeral
Prince Harry’s bride also received criticism over the flowers she sent for Prince Philip’s funeral. Meghan did not make it to the U.K. for the service as she was advised by her doctor not to fly because of how far along she is in her pregnancy. Since she could not be there in person, the duchess sent a personalized note and wreath.
Us Weekly noted the wreath was made up of Eryngium representing the Royal Marines and Acanthus mollis the national flower of Greece where the Duke of Edinburgh was born. It also included an arrangement of Campanula, Rosemary, lavender, and Philip’s birth flower.
However, Buckingham Palace chose not to release any particulars about the wreaths laid out at the chapel so after the details of the wreath Meghan sent broke, she was accused of leaking that information for positive publicity. “What is bewildering here is why and how, on a day which should have been resolved solely focusing on celebrating the duke, that still something Sussex-related has managed to end up in the headlines,” royal writer Daniela Elsa said.
But in that instance, Meghan’s fans defended her and claimed that Elsa just doesn’t like the Duchess of Sussex and her comments prove that.
