Meghan Markle is ‘certainly making the right noises’ when it comes to a potential career in US politics, according to royal expert Russell Myers.
Speaking on the Lorraine show today, he discussed the comments Meghan, 40, made to Vogue at the weekend about the repealing of Roe v. Wade during a conversation with feminist author and activist Gloria Steinem, 88, and journalist Jessica Yellin.
The Duchess, who lives in Montecito, California, with her husband Prince Harry, 37, and their children Archie, three, and Lilibet, one, said all men need to join women in the fight to protect abortion rights, adding that Harry is a feminist, and he reacted with anger to the Supreme Court’s decision.
The conversation reignited rumours that the royal may be planning to enter politics, which Russell said he thought is likely.

He said: ‘Prince Harry and Megan have moved over to the United States.
‘They’ve got their financial freedom. They’ve got their essential freedom from the royal family so they can speak on political issues.
‘And certainly, Megan was speaking to Vogue at the weekend, talking about Roe versus Wade, a very, very controversial abortion law that has been repealed in the US.’
Meghan also hinted that a trip to the political capital may be on the cards, suggesting that she and Gloria could be ‘taking a trip to D.C. together soon’ during the Vogue conversation.
Referring to this, Russell said: ‘Now Megan has said, you know, that [she] might be in Washington very soon.
‘So does she have political ambitions? I do think she does. And she’s certainly rubbing shoulders with the right people and making the right noises.

‘So, you know, sometimes it might not seem so ludicrous that she might stand for office because she’s certainly making the right noises.’
During the conversation with Vogue at the weekend, Meghan said that all men need to join women in the fight to protect abortion rights.
‘Men need to be vocal in this moment and beyond because these are decisions that affect relationships, families, and communities at large,’ she said.
‘They may target women, but the consequences impact all of us.
‘My husband and I talked about that a lot over the past few days. He’s a feminist too.’
Meghan Markle and Gloria Steinem spoke to Vogue about the repeal of Roe v. Wade this weekend, prompting fresh rumours about Meghan’s political ambitions
Steinem, who was approached by Markle in 2020, when the Duchess realized that she was sheltering during the pandemic near their California home, said she could confirm that Harry was deeply interested in women’s rights.
She called the pair ‘chosen family’.
‘His reaction last week was guttural, like mine,’ Markle said.
‘I know that for so many women right now, there is a sentiment of despair. But again, we have to band together and not wallow. We have to do the work.’
The mother of two said it was important to ‘normalize conversation about the things that affect our lives and bodies’, referencing her own decision to speak out in November 2020 about her own miscarriage.
‘This is about women’s physical safety,’ she said.
Markle said that her husband, Prince Harry, was a feminist who reacted to the news of the repeal of Roe v. Wade in a ‘guttural’ way
‘It’s also about economic justice, individual autonomy, and who we are as a society. Nobody should be forced to make a decision they do not want to make, or is unsafe, or puts their own life in jeopardy.’
Steinem told the story of her own abortion, performed in London, which she said allowed her to live the life she chose.
‘Here you’re talking to two women: one who chose to give birth happily, and one who chose not to give birth happily,’ Markle said.
‘And we’re both prospering because we were able to make our own choices.’

Meghan received some pushback from republicans over her comments, with some saying they didn’t want British royals having a say on US politics.
Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI) said: ‘This is just another attempt from the ex-royals to insert their British drama in American politics.
‘I don’t think anyone on this side of the pond cares for Meghan Markle’s opinion on killing babies. However, I think her running for President would be a great episode for The Crown.’
Meanwhile, Rep. Buddy Carter added: ‘I think Americans made it pretty clear in 1776 that they don’t want members of the British Royal Family making decisions for them.’
