Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry‘s primetime interview with Oprah Winfrey continues to have far-reaching effects around the world. They spoke at length about how tumultuous their marriage was while they were still official members of the royal family and why they decided to leave. But one person close to Meghan believes they saw it all coming.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left royal life in early 2020
In early 2020, before the coronavirus pandemic broke out, Meghan and Harry shocked the world when they announced that they were stepping back from their official roles as royal family members. It was the first time that it had ever been done, and both received substantial criticism for the move.
Meghan bore the brunt of the negative effects of their marriage before she and Harry even tied the knot. Tabloid coverage of the couple — and Meghan specifically — trafficked in racist and sexist tropes and painted Meghan to be a freeloader who was destroying the royal family from the inside.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revealed bombshells about the royal family to Oprah Winfrey
With their explosive sit-down with Oprah, now people around the world know why they did what they did.
One of the biggest bombshells of the interview was when Meghan revealed that there were “concerns and conversations” happening amongst the family during her pregnancy about how dark baby Archie’s skin might be when he was born.
Another surprising revelation was about the tabloid story that ran days before her wedding to Harry where she allegedly made Kate, Duchess of Cambridge cry. In reality, the reverse happened, but the Palace didn’t bother releasing a statement correcting the narrative, as they often do for many other stories.
Meghan Markle’s friend had a bad feeling about her marriage to Prince Harry
Meghan and Harry both acknowledged that she was welcomed into the family after they got married, but the love and support ended there. In a new episode of E! True Hollywood Story, one of Meghan’s friends from high school named Simone Burns Dilley said that she was worried about her decision to marry into the royal family and the treatment she might — and ultimately did — end up facing.
“We were excited for her, but…at the same time, I was worried,” Burns Dilley said honestly. “She was divorced. She’s half-Black. I was like, ‘Oh, my God. They’re gonna be so mean to her.’”
TV and radio host Sarah-Jane Crawford confirmed Burns Dilley’s fears in the True Hollywood Story episode and explained how the UK press operates. “The British media do have a reputation for wanting to build someone up and bring them down again,” she said, admitting that “there were racial undertones” in how Meghan was covered.
