We’ve been living with the COVID-19 pandemic for almost a year now and it’s safe to say we’ve ditched our daily makeup routine, shellac nails and have lived in our comfies for most of it. According to Tyla, we’ve also ditched our sexy underwear too.

Yep, that's right, new figures have shown a steep rise in those opting for a more comfier brief during lockdown and we’re with them. ASOS’s sales for knickers and fuller briefs have risen by 36 percent, while PrettyLittleThing saw an increase of 20-40 per cent in searches for full briefs in the months of May, July, December and January.

With 46 percent of the population in jobs which are currently required to work from home, the majority of us said goodbye to our pencil skirts, court heels and suits and opted for more comfier attire or the well known WFH trend of dressing from the waist up.

This naturally leads us to wanting to ditch our thongs and pick out our Bridget Jones style big knickers – well who can blame us?

Aliza Reger, of Janet Reger underwear told Tyla: "The pandemic has made us more aware of comfort than ever and with the lack of formal wear, it is only natural that women reach for comfortable underwear along with the comfort driven 'Leisure/At Home wear.'

"Some days you want or need fuller coverage or the additional support of a big knicker and while we do not make the full on 'Hold it all in and support everything knicker', they do cover, conceal and hold in the too many trips to the biscuit tin using beautiful stretch lace and power mesh. Ultimately, it's about feeling good about yourself.”

However, since last year, big knickers are not limited to just granny pants. The full brief had a little revamp and now falls within the sexy category with the help of Kim Kardashian's brand SKIMS followed by Missguided and Simply Be who all created shapewear and fuller brief collections last year and Aliza Reger believes we’ve got Bridget Jones to thank for that.

"Bridget Jones made big knickers sexy in 2001 but Kim K has globalised the trend as well as bringing the trend to a much wider and younger audience," she says.

With the end of lockdown in sight, will you stick with your fuller briefs or go back to your lace thongs? We’ve grown to love our Bridget Jones’s.
