Most popular baby names of the last 90 years unveiled including Olivia

Picking a moniker for your little one is never an easy feat, especially with so many baby names to choose from.

But what might help you on your way is a look at all the names that have been popular over theist decade.

Some have never left us, and continue to storm ahead in popularity today, while others are more obscure and aren't used as much.

A TikTok video has revealed which names were most popular for each decade since the 1920s.

We begin with Margaret, which was popular in both the UK and UK, and it was a top name of choice in the 1930s and 1940s.

However, when the 1950s hit the most popular women's name changed to Susan, which stayed in top spot for the 1960s too.

As we moved into the 1970s and 90s, it was time a new name to take centerstage – Sarah!

After this, Rebecca began the number one name for baby girls throughout the 1990s and this then changed to Chloe for the 2000s.

As we head towards modern day, it's Olivia that has been holding down top spot since the 2010s.

It's still a hit today and often pops up as the most popular name in recent years.

As 2021 drew to a close, The Office of National Statistics unveiled the most popular baby names in the UK, and modern names were dominating both the boys and girls lists.

Traditional names for girls are becoming increasingly unpopular.

Both Christine and Jane are dropped down the list over recent years, with Jane falling by 1302 places since 1996.

Names which have risen in popularity include Ivy, which is now the sixth most popular name in the England and Wales, and Rosie, which has made the top ten for the very first time.

As well as Olivia topping the list, other popular names last year were Amelia, Isla, Ava, Mia, Lily, Isabella and Sophia.

For boys, the top spot was taken by Oliver, and other popular names included George, Arthur, Noah, Muhammad, Leo, Oscar, Harry, Archie and Jack.
