This is what 52 looks like: Mother-of-two says honey-based facials and tinctures keep her youthful
- Mother-of-two Tabitha James Kraan gets honey-based facials every two months
- After starting perimenopause, her friend suggested reducing her caffeine intake
- The best tinctures, which she used in lockdown, are Findhorn Flower Essences
Tabitha James Kraan lives in Gloucestershire and has two sons, Felix, 21, and Sebastian, 18.
She runs her own hair salon and has a line of organic haircare products (tabithajameskraan.com).
BEE FACIALS
I go for honey-based facials every two months (from £65, spasocial.online). This key ingredient is packed with natural antioxidants and anti-microbial properties, which leave my skin feeling super hydrated.
In between, I do weekly at-home facials, mixing Therapi Propolis+ Ultra Radiance Cream (£16, therapi.com) with a spoonful of local honey.
Propolis, a resin-like material made by bees, is also packed with anti-inflammatories, which reduce the redness of my skin.

MINDFUL HORSE RIDING
Growing up, I was surrounded by horses. Eight years ago, my love of them was reignited when riding on a holiday in New Zealand.
I now have two horses, Jack and Freddy, whom I ride for several hours a day.
This has improved my balance, given me a strong core and toned thighs, and, most importantly, it’s a key part of my mindfulness practice.
CUTTING COFFEE
I started the perimenopause last year and a friend suggested reducing my caffeine intake to get better sleep. It has made a big difference to my energy levels.
Now, I take a shot of ginger and lemon juice for a get-up-and-go boost.

TINCTURE CABINET
I’ve taken tinctures for most of my adult life. My favourites are from Findhorn Flower Essences, which include plant extracts to help you manage different emotions.
During lockdown, I used its Acceptance remedy (£11.50, findhornessences.com) to cope with the extra stress.
NATURAL HAIRCARE
I’ve been an organic hairdresser for 20 years as I believe that what goes on your skin — including your scalp — can be absorbed into your body.
I wash my hair once a week with my Amber Rose Hair Cleanser (£25, tabithajameskraan.com). I also apply my Scented Organic Hair Oil (£38). Haircare is as important as skincare.
