More Brits than ever are having plastic surgery – and a quarter of those who go under the knife do so to look better in selfies.
In 2019, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons revealed that breast enlargement was the most common procedure carried out on women while breast reductions, liposuction, tummy ticks and eyelid surgery were also common.
For men, nose jobs, ear surgery, breast reductions and liposuctions were the most common.
The rise of the curvy Instagram figure has also lead to an increase in often deadly surgeries like the Brazilian Butt Lift.
While all new surgery trends such as threads, lip flips, fox or cat eye surgery and mini face lifts have stormed the country as people seek the perfect, celebrity look.
One person who decided to go under the knife over the last few years was Stacey Marie Clarke, 32, a photographer, from Wales.
She admitted to spending more than £30,000 on a BBL, popular cat eye surgery – which makes the eyes look more almond shaped and lifted – a face lift and a lip lift.
The mum-of-two, from Swansea, explained that she had never been curvy and fell pregnant as a teenager.
After a relationship breakdown she wanted to have a full makeover to feel more confident.
She told Fabulous: “Growing up, I was flat-chested, had no curves and no cheekbones.
“I fell pregnant at 15 and by 18 was mum to two boys now aged 15 and 16.
“When my relationship with my long-term partner broke down in 2019 I wanted a drastic makeover to start afresh.”
But, plastic surgery in Britain is extremely expensive with Linia Cosmetic Surgery estimating that a BBL alone would have set Stacey back “between £6,250 and £7,000 or sometimes more.”
So, the photographer did what many young Brits do for surgery and flew to Turkey.
The country has become a hot spot for bargain hunters looking to have cosmetic work performed for a cheaper rate.
Stacey commented: “I saw celebrities travelling abroad for cut-price cosmetic surgery on Instagram, so in June 2019 I travelled to Turkey and had a Brazilian butt lift, a lip lift, liposuction on my arms and thighs and lipo under my chin.
"Later that year I returned and underwent cut-price cat eye surgery, a face lift, a hair transplant and spent £15,000 on veneers.”
Within just one year, Stacey had undergone nine high risk procedures and spent more than £30,000.
She has since had Botox – which helps to prevent, reduce or freeze wrinkles and signs of ageing – and more lip fillers.
The gorgeous brunette, who posts cheeky snaps on Instagram, said: "People say I am unrecognisable but I don’t care.
“The surgery has knocked years off and I’m often mistaken as my sons’ teenage sister."
