A mother has asked if she should ban her daughter from seeing one of her best friends after she returned from a she was horrified after her 11-year-old daughter returned from a neighbour’s house with new piercings.
Taking to Reddit, the anonymous woman, believed to be from the UK, explained that her daughter spent the day with her 13-year old friend and two older girls aged 14 and 15.
Her daughter already had her ears pierced but she never expressed an interest in getting more, and so she believes she caved in to peer pressure.
The mother is now considering banning her daughter from seeing her friend again but she is not sure if ‘it’s a good idea.’
Responses were divided, with some claiming she needs to speak to the other girls’ parents and said they were concerned her daughter had been pressured into it, while others insisted it’s ‘normal’ pre-teen behaviour.

The ‘shocked’ mother wrote: ‘Over the weekend my 11-year-old daughter went to our neighbour’s place for a sleepover. Our neighbour’s daughter is 13 and she also invited two other friends who are 14 and 15.
‘I was a little reluctant about my daughter spending time with the older girls but we know our neighbors well and often go away with them.
‘My initial feelings were proven correct when my daughter came home. I was soon to find out that the girls decided to pierce each others ears.
‘It is very uncharacteristic for my daughter to do such thing and she only ever had her 1st holes pierced (which she rarely wears) and never expressed interest in other piercings. However, she now has her ears all blinged out with 7 in one ear and 3 in the other.
She continued: ‘I am very shocked that she did all those piercings and suspect she was likely influenced by peer pressure.
‘I have many concerns around hygiene, removing the piercings but mainly how easily my daughter was influenced by the older girls to do something so stupid. She is also too young to make what I consider a permanent decision and she may also regret the piercings later.

One person wrote: ‘Right! I literally gasped out loud when I got to the part about 7 on one ear lobe. I had assumed this was a zero to 2 hole (1 in each ear) situation.
‘You obviously need to talk to your daughter about peer pressure, but I would actually be talking to the other parents as well. This was unacceptable, there are so many issues here and I would hope they would want to address with their daughter as well.’
Another said: ‘Me too! I gasped out loud. I was also assuming no piercings to 2 not 2 to 10 that’s shocking!
‘I’d definitely have a talk with the parents and your daughter to see what exactly happened and what her thought process was.
‘And the parents need to know this is not at all OK. I’d also take them out so hopefully they close without scarring and clean the holes well once the piercings are removed.’

While someone else wrote: ‘Same here. That honestly seems barbaric- the jump from 2 to 10 piercings very potentially because of intimidation.’

One person wrote: ‘This is pretty normal preteen behaviour. I’m not gonna lie I used to pierce other peoples ear when I was in junior high and my sisters friend pierced her belly button for her when she was like 13.’
Another said: ‘That is exactly what I was thinking. In the 90s this was a thing. My younger sister was always piercing someone.
‘Middle schoolers do stupid piercings, dye their hair stupid colors, give each other henna tattoos. It’s part of them carving out their own identity.’
While someone else said: ‘My ten year old got her ears pierced this week at a tattoo and piercing place. It was clean, only took a few minutes, and she loves them. She didn’t cry or even flinch. She said it hurt a little, but it wasn’t a big deal.’
