A man has sparked furious outrage after he revealed his brother’s new girlfriend stormed out of a family meal – because there weren’t enough vegan options for her.
Coming together for dinner with loved ones can be a heartwarming occasion, however, food restrictions can often cause friction at the table.
When a man took to Reddit to open up about his brother’s new love’s behavior and revealed she caused a scene at a restaurant and slammed him for ‘alienating’ her because there were no vegan food options, social media users were quick to come to his defense and brand the woman a ‘spoiled brat.’
The user questioned if he was in the wrong in a thread titled ‘Am I the a**hole?’ for not accommodating her dietary needs, despite not being aware of the woman’s attendance until one week before the event.

The man explained that when he and his fiancé picked the restaurant, the only dietary restrictions that they were aware of were pescatarians, but that was before his brother brought the lady in his life around.
He added that when the girlfriend discovered there was nothing she could eat, she made a scene in front of everyone, and now, members of his family are pushing him to apologize, despite her ‘inappropriate attitude.’
In the post, the engaged man wrote: ‘My fiancé and I invited both of our immediate family and close friends to this dinner (about 30 people).

‘The dinner was held at a nice Italian restaurant in my city. Our invites gave our guests the option to choose between a meat option and a fish option for their mains.’
He explained that the only people in his and his fiancé’s family who have dietary restrictions are his dad and step mom, who are both pescatarians.
The man then said that a ‘week before’ the dinner, his younger brother reached out and asked if he could bring his new girlfriend.
Although his brother ‘dates around a lot and is always bringing new girls around,’ the man said yes and assured his brother there would be a seat for her.
The Reddit user explained: ‘Now my brother dates around a lot and is always bringing new girls around, so I wasn’t aware that he was even in a relationship. I told him sure and that I’d have an extra seat for her.’
The younger brother chose meat as his food option.
‘Night of the dinner comes, everyone is having a good time, I met my brothers new girlfriend, she seemed very sweet.

‘When it came time to eat she pulled one of the waiters aside and loudly asked him, “Is there any vegan options?”
‘The waiter looked confused and said, “We have a fish and a meat option for the mains. I can offer you a salad and some roasted potatoes and other veggies as a substitute if you wish.”‘
The Reddit user revealed his brother’s girlfriend then began to ‘get mouthy’ with the waiter and slammed the worker for only offering her a salad.
‘Brother’s girlfriend started get mouthy with him and said, “Well what if I don’t want a salad huh? You just assume because I’m vegan I only eat salads? What if I want some pasta? What kind of restaurant is this, this is discrimination.”‘
The engaged man’s brother tried to calm his girlfriend down, but there seemed to be no point because she was already raging.
‘My brother started trying to calm her down, but she started going off on me saying, “Why would you pick a restaurant that doesn’t have vegan options? Many people are vegan nowadays it makes me feel alienated that you couldn’t even think to accommodate me.”‘
The engaged man attempted to explain that he only considered the pescatarians because he didn’t know she was attending the dinner until a week ago and the reservation was booked a month ago.’
The girlfriend slammed the engaged man and branded him ’embarrassing’ and ‘small-minded’ for not accommodating all guests.
He responded: ‘Sorry I didn’t think to accommodate you I’ll consider that in the future, hopefully you’ll be around long enough for me to do able to do so.’
The Reddit user revealed that his younger brother has since been pestering him to apologize for embarrassing her in front of everyone
She then stormed out of the restaurant and the engaged man’s brother walked out with her.
The Reddit user revealed that his younger brother has since been pestering him to apologize for embarrassing her in front of everyone.
He added that his mom has also begged him to apologize to ‘be the bigger person and keep the peace.’
The Reddit user questioned if he was the a**hole for ‘making her feel alienated.’
Other social media users were quick to come the engaged man’s defense and even slammed the girlfriend for giving ‘vegans a bad reputation’ and begged him to not apologize to her.
One user branded the girlfriend a ‘spoiled brat’ and said: ‘Oh for the love of god, do not apologize to her. Who does she think she is to complain like that?
Other social media users were quick to come the engaged man’s defense and even slammed the girlfriend for giving ‘vegans a bad reputation’
‘The way she talked to the waiter proves that she has no manners and the way she talked to you tells me that she is rude, spoiled and brat.
‘She embarrassed herself in front of everyone by this inappropriate attitude and you were too kind to her, bravo. Easy not the a**hole. Your brother is the a**hole for taking her side and she is the a**hole here.’
Another person commented: ‘Was starting to type do not apologize, when I saw this post. I agree with all of this and would add, if I could not eat the food at a family event, I would just not eat or keep it to myself. It is a family event, of which I am not part, so I make small talk and make some connections. If I wanted to be pushy about food, I would leave the area and talk to the staff outside the earshot of attendees.’
‘Not the a**hole. I hate when people weaponize their veganism. Unless it is an allergy, choosing not eat something is a personal choice,’ said one Reddit user.
Others said she was an ‘unbearable brat’ and said she was the one who ‘broke the peace’ because she was ‘small-minded.’
‘Not the a**hole but wow oh wow, but your brothers girlfriend is. You should remind your brother your world does not revolve around his current or future girlfriends. The audacity of her, invited to a nice restaurant by people she barely knows and gets that entitled. This is why vegans have a bad reputation,’ another person commented.
