We met only a month ago, but I was blown away by her. She is incredibly confident and self-assured. I am 28 and she is 26.

I have a brilliant job in sales which I love and I get on really well with my boss. He is 12 years older than me.

He is supportive and has helped me with new leads and approaches. I’ve learned so much from him.

As our department has had a great year despite the pandemic, he treated us all to a posh night out — dinner and a nightclub.

During the evening, I introduced my girlfriend to him. I was pretty put out when they began flirting right in front of me but I did my best to ignore it.

When we went on to a club after dinner, I got cornered by one of my colleagues who wanted to talk shop.

All the while, I could see my girlfriend on the dance floor. She was having a great time “body grinding” with my boss.

I was fuming but kept my cool. I didn’t want to make a scene so went outside for a smoke and tried to calm down.

When I returned, my boss and my girlfriend were nowhere to be seen. I downed a couple more drinks and then my girlfriend sidled up beside me at the bar.

She said she had gone out onto the roof terrace to cool down.
We left soon afterwards and I stayed at her flat. The next day she told me she’d had sex with my boss on the roof terrace.

She said: “It just happened.” She is consumed with guilt but I was in bits and dumped her.

I feel totally humiliated.

DEIDRE SAYS: Despite the rumours, you gave your girlfriend the benefit of the doubt. Sadly, she didn’t deserve your trust and you have been betrayed by her and your boss. The trigger may have been booze but that is no excuse.

You are heartbroken but can move on. It is good you saw her true character early before investing more time in her.

Focus on taking care of yourself and getting back to the person you were before it happened. My support pack, Mend Your Broken Heart, can help you.

Concentrate on boosting your social life and give yourself a chance to meet someone else who will appreciate you.

It will be tough when you see your boss but be civil when your paths cross at work. He’s the one in the wrong, not you.
