My husband is 26 years older than me — people always think hes my dad

A woman who married a man 26 years older than her has revealed people always assume they're related, mistaking him for her dad.

Allison Hornsby, 45, first met her husband Ben 71, in 1998 when the now-retired postal worker made a delivery to the pawn show she was working in at the time.

The pair instantly had a "natural connection" and despite knowing their big age gap could cause some controversy, they decided not to let this keep them apart.

Now the happy couple, who live in Florida, US, have five children together and say they couldn't be more in love.

But their relationship isn't without its challenges, with Allison revealing people are constantly making awkward blunders assuming they're related.

She says she's also sick of "offensive" messages from younger men who think she can't possibly be happy in her marriage.

Recalling how people have reacted to their age gap before, Allison said: "People in public have wrongly assumed I am Ben's daughter.

“Teachers have assumed Ben is our children's grandfather."

In 2003 Ben became a father at 53 when Allison gave birth to triplets Benjamin, Noah and Ethan.

Three years later their brood expanded to five when she welcomed twins Mia and Jude.

Ben, who retired in 2010, described raising their kids as their "biggest challenge".

He said: "Having triplets and twins is a lot of work.

"Raising five children together has been somewhat overwhelming, but we do it together."

Allison, a content creator, has been sharing parts of their family life online in a bid to "show the beauty of a strong marriage".

But while their posts are supposed to be positive, the couple have received abuse over their relationship.

"I feel like people assume age gap relationships are shallow and that we couldn't be truly happy," Allison said.

She added: "We have received some abusive comments on our Instagram post[s].

"We get inappropriate messages, mostly from men, with older men offering to be my sugar daddy. Younger men offer me to be a side piece.

"Obviously this is offensive – we have a very healthy marriage."

Allison and Ben revealed their families were mostly accepting of their relationship from the start.

"Ben's family was very accepting of me – they were glad to see him happy.

"My sister was only 13 when she met Ben, but she always approved of our relationship and supported us."

But not everyone in their lives was happy for them.

"Some of our friends had different reactions, they were surprised by the age gap," Allison added.

Despite getting some negative reactions, the couple refused to ever let it come between them and encouraged others to follow their hearts.

Allison said: "We were both consenting adults, so we didn't see a problem with our age gap.

"We knew other people may not accept our relationship, but we felt such a natural connection — we didn't want to be apart.

"If you truly love each other don't let the outside noise stop you from exploring your relationship."
