My husband thinks I'm turning into my mum but the truth is he's the monster | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: MY husband says I’m turning into my mum. He knows that is the worst insult he can give me because he hates her.

We’ve been married for 25 years. I’m 50, he’s 52, and we have two grown-up children.

My mum never liked him, and warned me not to marry him. I regret ignoring her.

He cheated on me several times and made it clear he saw me as nothing more than a mother to his children.

Since they left home, he has become increasingly moody and difficult to live with.

Whenever I try to talk to him, it ends in a huge row and then he swears, calls me nasty names and says I’m an interfering old nag – like my mum. I’m so tired of being treated like this.

DEIDRE SAYS: Your husband sounds angry and frustrated, but that’s no excuse for being verbally abusive to you.

My support pack, Abusive Partner, will show you where to turn for support.

You need to tell him this behaviour isn’t acceptable and if he wants you to stay together, you both need to work on your relationship.

Relationship counselling could help. See tavistockrelationships.org or call 020 7380 1960.
