My neighbour’s parking was a nuisance – now I may need to call the police’

Vehicle disputes can set the stage for long-lasting feuds between neighbours, and nowhere is this more evident than on the Reddit forum Mildly Infuriating. Though the vast majority of nuisance parking incidents can be corrected through conversation, some cases can become a matter for the cops.

This was the case for one infuriated Ohio resident, whose patience was tested when her neighbour’s teenage daughter refused to stop parking on her side of the driveway. The issue first came to the woman’s attention before moving into the property but she is now considering going to the police for help.

She captioned her Reddit post “Never again will I rent a house with a shared driveway,” racking up more than 38,000 upvotes and thousands of comments. In the online discussion, the poster explained that their neighbour’s teenage daughter had a habit of parking her car on the wrong side of the driveway.

She later told Newsweek, however, that she had been renting the property in Akron, Ohio, since November 2022. When she first visited the house it immediately jumped to her attention that there was a car parked on the wrong side of the driveway.

“I asked the landlord if it was meant to be our side, to which they replied ‘yes’,” she penned, before confirming that the car was gone when she eventually moved in.

Things rapidly changed by springtime, however, as it transpired that the next doors were “on the messier side” and would frequently let their mess spill onto the woman’s property.

She decided to turn a blind eye to her neighbour’s unruly behavior until she had to start fighting to use her parking space, she explained.

The neighbour’s daughter and her friends make frequent use of the parking slot, causing blockades with their vehicle that prevent the woman from reversing out.

Whenever she communicated the problem to the teen, the youngster retaliated with attitude, once even calling the woman a b****.

Fellow Redditors raced to the comments to share advice on the matter, with one writing: “Don’t pull all the way in.

“Park right over the sidewalk so no one can park behind you without blocking the driveway illegally.”

Another user advised: “Play a tow company to move it to some random location, preferably dropped off at a no parking zone.”

A third person agreed that towing would be a suitable solution, adding: “Usually only needs to be done once or twice, but the idiot will learn.”

“Get up in the middle of the night and knock on their door saying you need to head out,” suggested one cunning Reddit. “Do that s*** daily.”
