My partner's pushing me away after her dad's death

DEAR DEIDRE: MY partner is pushing me away so she can “grieve properly” having lost her dad. It’s like she doesn’t understand that I want to help her through this.

Apparently, this is how it ended with her ex. She pushed him away after her mum died.

She’s 45, I’m 52 and we’ve been together for nine months.

We met playing badminton and had an instant connection. Within a couple of weeks, we were spending all of our time together.

She’d even started leaving a few bits at my place – pyjamas, a toothbrush, a change of clothes.

But when her father died of bowel cancer in November, everything changed.

DEIDRE SAYS: Losing a loved one can make you question future plans.

She may have felt overwhelmed at the prospect of juggling a new relationship and grieving.

The best thing you can do is give her the space she’s asked for, but let her know you want to be with her when she’s ready.
