I’m 49, my wife is 50 and my younger sister is 46.
Last month she fed our cat and must have gone through my private files and discovered the size of my salary (£61,000) and the contents of our savings account (£24,000).
Since then she keeps asking for help paying for her bills and says she knows I can afford it.
I have helped in the past but now resent the constant demands.
She spends all her money on partying, booze and cigarettes.
She’s also told me I should start paying into a fund for her daughter for when she turns 16.

She’s said other people agree, so has obviously been telling others about my finances.
I’m furious as I’m very private.

DEIDRE SAYS: It’s time to have a full and frank conversation with your sister.
Explain that you have worked hard to get to where you are and want your finances to remain private.
Ask her not to divulge any private information to anyone else.
You shouldn’t feel obliged to give anyone money – this is something that should be done of your own free will.
I’m sending you my leaflet Family Finances, which might help your sister with budgeting.
