A Nectar card can be used when spending at Sainsbury’s, Esso, Asos, eBay, Expedia as well as a huge list of other outlets. The amount of points you get varies, but Sainsbury’s usually offers one point for every £1 spent. In its latest deal, Nectar is offering existing members free bonus points.

All existing members can collect between 100 and 2,000 free bonus points via its app until March 9.

This is equivalent between 50p and £10 off your shopping.

Free points are typically issued to new members, and so this deal is a great one for existing members to benefit.

New members will also receive 250 points when signing up to Nectar, equivalent to £1.25.

How can you collect the free Nectar points?

Simply log into your Nectar account via the app which can be downloaded on iOS and Android.

If you don’t have an account, you can sign up for one on the app too.

On the home screen, there will be a tile showing how many bonus points you have been awarded.

This will then instantly be added to shoppers’ Nectar points balance to spend.

Nectar says it is offering the bonus to show existing members on average how many points it estimates they’ve missed out on over a 12 week period by not using the personalised bonus offers in the app.

This means if you have not used the app much in the past three months, you should receive more points than if you were to use it on a regular basis.

Customers can also get personalised weekly offers via the app and website to spend in Sainsbury’s.

Each Friday, shoppers will be sent a range of point-boosting offers to choose from based on their previous shopping habits.

These offers can be viewed on the app or website and saved before doing a food shop at Sainsbury’s.

They typically have to be used within a certain time period, although these are refreshed each week.

Nectar points can also be claimed at Caffè Nero, Sky Store as well as being collected on train tickets including Avanti West Coast and LNER.

Earlier this year, Nectar partnered with Avios, which means Sainsbury’s customers can save towards their next holiday with a food shop.

In the new scheme, 400 Nectar points collected can be converted into 250 Avios.

With 4,000 Avios you can book a members flight to Amsterdam.

Customers will receive a one-off bonus 500 Avios when they convert 1,600 Nectar points.

Adam Daniels, CEO of Avios, said: “Like Nectar, we pride ourselves on working with a wide range of partners for the benefit of our members, so working together was a natural step.

“Nectar will join hundreds of partners who all offer a whole host of exciting and varied ways to collect and spend Avios.”
