Neighbours confirms another major return

Neighbours has delighted fans with confirmation that Lucinda Cowden will reprise her iconic role as Melanie Pearson in the upcoming revival series.

The popular Aussie soap, which was controversially axed by Channel 5 last year, will return to screens in the Autumn, after being rescued by Amazon Freevee, with production having commenced on Monday (April 17).

A number of familiar faces will return to Ramsay Street, including Jackie Woodburne, Alan Fletcher, Ryan Moloney and Stefan Dennis, who play Susan Kennedy, Karl Kennedy, Toadie Rebecchi and Paul Robinson respectively.

Annie Jones, who played Jane ‘Plain Jane Superbrain’ Harris, will similarly reprise her iconic role, as will Rebekah Elmaloglou (Terese Willis), Georgie Stone (Mackenzie Hargreaves), and Tim Kano (Leo Tanaka), who will all be series regulars moving forward, with Harold Bishop (Ian Smith) and Chloe Brennan (April Rose Pengilly) also slated to return.

There was, however, one glaring absence in those set to come back for the revival series, and that was none other than Lucinda Cowden, who played the popular Melanie Pearson.

Melanie, as viewers know, wed Toadie in the final episode broadcast on Channel 5 last year, and thus fans had been holding out hope that she would stage a comeback for the revival series.

Their wish has been granted, with Neighbours confirming news of Lucinda’s return as Melanie during the closing moments of the show’s final date of the Celebration Tour, which concluded in Melbourne on Sunday (April 16), with a tweet sharing the news with a wider audience soon afterwards.
