Don’t worry, darling! Olivia Wilde bites her lip as she and toyboy lover Harry Styles attend afterparty for their scandal-ridden movie with Madonna – after co-stars Florence Pugh and Chris Pine FAILED to attend amid rumors of major bust-ups
- Wilde, 38, was pictured arriving at the Bowery Hotel in Manhattan alongside Styles, 28, ahead of an afterparty being held to celebrate the New York premiere of their movie, Don’t Worry Darling
- The movie has been surrounded in controversy and scandal, which began when it was revealed that Wilde – who directs the psychological thriller – was dating Styles, who had been cast in one of the lead roles
- At the time, Wilde had just ended a long-term relationship with ex-fiance Jason Sudeikis, with whom she shares two children, Otis, eight, and Daisy, five
- Further controversy arose after Wilde claimed that she fired Shia LaBeouf from the lead role and replaced him with Styles; LaBeouf hit back insisting that he’d actually stepped down, sharing texts to Wilde as evidence
- It was also claimed that Pugh and Wilde had fallen out; Pugh admitted she was not happy with the decision to market the movie in a hypersexualized manner, but Wilde insisted sex scenes were ‘integral’ to the movie
- Further rumors emerged about Pugh’s ‘discomfort’ over Styles and Wilde’s on-set relationship
The scandal surrounding Olivia Wilde and her toyboy lover Harry Styles’ new movie reached new levels on Monday night when two of its leading stars failed to attend the New York City premiere of the psychological thriller – amid ongoing rumors of on-set fall-outs and behind-the-scenes drama.
But if the red carpet snub from actors Florence Pugh and Chris Pine had any impact on director Wilde, 38, and her chart-topping beau, 28, they refused to let it show as they celebrated the release of their controversial big-screen endeavor at a star-studded New York City bash, looking every inch the happy Hollywood couple as they strutted their way into the event.
Hours after it was revealed that Pugh, 26, and Pine, 42, had opted to skip the latest premiere event for the flick, Wilde and Styles were pictured arriving at Manhattan’s Bowery Hotel, where they went on to party the night away alongside Madonna – who sported a very quirky look for her evening on the town.
The only hint of concern on Wilde’s face as she made her way into the soiree was a subtle lip bite as she walked past photographers, sporting a chic long-sleeved black gown – a stark contrast to her boyfriend’s vibrant blue ensemble for the evening.
Styles followed close behind his girlfriend of 18 months as they walked into the venue, once again showing off his funky sense of personal style by sporting a blue velvet double-breasted blazer, a pair of pinstripe blue wide-leg pants, and a matching blue collared shirt.

Wilde, 38, was seen biting her lip as the pair made their way into the Bowery Hotel, shortly after two of the movie’s biggest stars – Florence Pugh and Chris Pine – failed to attend the red carpet screening
Styles, 28, and his girlfriend put on a stylish display as they made their way into the soiree. Other than Wilde biting her lip, the pair showed no visible signs of stress amid ongoing scandal surrounding their movie and rumors of on-set bust-ups
Earlier in the evening however, the pair were seen exchanging several tense glances on the red carpet
Although his ensemble was certainly fashion-forward, the singer was no match for Madonna, 64, who went all out for the occasion in a very bizarre outfit.
The chart-topper wore a pair of ripped baggy jeans over navy leggings, pairing the low-key pants with a black corset top, a bright blue winbreaker jacket, and leather fingerless gloves.
She injected a bit of bling into her look in the form of several chunky diamond necklaces, a stack of bracelets on each wrist, and a pair of dazzling hoop earrings, finishing the ensemble off with some grey-rimmed sunglasses, despite the late hour of the event.
Madge also funked things up with her beauty look for the evening, sporting bleached eyebrows and pale pink hair as she made her way out of the Bowery Hotel.
Wilde and Styles – who have been the subject of intense scrutiny over the past year and a half after going public with their relationship – made their way to the hotel after attending a screening of their psychological thriller, which has hit headlines again and again, not for its on-screen success, but rather for the furious behind-the-scenes scandal that has continued to cloud its release.
That specter of scandal continued to follow the director-actor duo on Monday night, when two of the movie’s star actors failed to make an appearance at the New York premiere. Although the couple were joined on the red carpet by co-stars such as Gemma Chan and Sydney Chandler, Pugh and Pine were noticeably absent from the red carpet event after the pair were dragged into the ongoing drama that surrounds the psychological thriller film.
Again, Styles and Wilde appeared keen to shrug off any signs of upset, although the pair were seen exchanging several intense glances during the red carpet, with the singer-turned-actor at one point appearing to glare at his girlfriend with a furrowed brow – the only sign of distress that was visible throughout the evening.
Pugh and Pine’s absence from the red carpet event comes in the wake of multiple reports of on-set fall-outs between the movie’s stars, its director Wilde, and actor Shia LaBeouf – who was initially cast alongside Pugh in the lead male role.
The first controversy arose after Styles and Wilde went public with their relationship when they were seen holding hands at a wedding in California in January 2021, following weeks of speculation that the pair were an item.
Eyebrows were raised, however, over just how quickly Wilde had moved on from her ex-fiancé, Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis, whom she split from in November 2020.
Wilde recently hit out at claims that there was any crossover in her relationships, telling Vanity Fair magazine: ‘The complete horses**t idea that I left Jason for Harry is completely inaccurate.
‘Like any relationship that ends, it doesn’t end overnight. Unfortunately, Jason and I had a very bumpy road, and we officially dissolved the relationship towards the beginning of the pandemic.’
That split became the source of more scandal when Wilde was served with legal papers for the pair’s custody battle over their two kids, Otis, eight, and Daisy, five, in front of hundreds of spectators while doing a talk at CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April, a move that she later slammed as ‘aggressive’ and ‘threatening’.
Madonna was also in attendance at the afterparty, where she showed off her very unique sense of style
The 62-year-old singer wore baggy, ripped jeans and a black corset, and she was seen sporting pink hair and bleached brows
Then, Wilde became embroiled in a bitter war of words with LaBeouf, after claiming that she had fired him from the project over concerns about his ‘combative energy’, claiming that she made the decision out of a desire to ‘protect’ leading lady Pugh.
However, LaBeouf hit back at the director’s claims, insisting that he had actually stepped down from the movie because he didn’t feel he’d had enough time to rehearse with the rest of the cast – while sharing text conversations with Wilde that seemed to serve as evidence for his side of the argument.
Claims about an on-set feud between Wilde and Pugh have also continued to dog the movie’s release, with sources suggesting that 26-year-old Pugh felt ‘uncomfortable’ about the director’s on-set relationship with Styles.
‘Flo seeing Olivia and Harry all over each other on set did not go down well as Olivia was still with Jason when she first hooked up with Harry,’ an insider claimed to Page Six.
‘Jason and the kids visited Olivia on set at the beginning a few times, so I think this all made people feel a little uncomfortable.’
Pugh then admitted in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar that she was unhappy with the way in which the movie’s trailer highlighted the sex scenes in the flick, saying that she felt as though the clip had ‘reduced’ Don’t Worry Darling to the most graphic aspects.
‘When it’s reduced to your sex scenes, or to watch the most famous man in the world go down on someone, it’s not why we do it. It’s not why I’m in this industry,’ she said. ‘Obviously, the nature of hiring the most famous pop star in the world, you’re going to have conversations like that. That’s just not what I’m going to be discussing because [this movie is] bigger and better than that. And the people who made it are bigger and better than that.’
In one of the more bizarre twists in the Don’t Worry Darling saga, video then emerged from the Venice Film Festival in which Styles appeared to spit on his co-star Pine while taking his seat at a screening of the movie on September 5.
On the red carpet, Wilde bared her back in a black long-sleeved YSL gown and statement bracelets
It was rumored that Pugh had been left ‘uncomfortable’ by Wilde’s on-set romance with Styles
Despite all the hype surrounding Don’t Worry Darling, it currently has a dismal 34 per cent critic approval rating (out of 64 reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes
The clip showed Styles making his way to his seat next to Chris, who was already seated and clapping, before instantly stopping and scowling when his co-star approached. Despite thousands of viewers insisting that they had seen Styles ‘spitting’ on Pine, a representative for the latter later spoke out to vehemently deny that any ‘spitting’ had taken place.
To add insult to injury, all of the scandal surrounding the movie appears to have done little to help it win over the critics; Don’t Worry Darling currently has a dismal 34 per cent critic approval rating (out of 64 reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes.
The movie tells the story of housewife Alice, played by Pugh, whose husband Jack, played by Styles, moves them into a utopian community for his new company.
Alice then starts worrying that her husband and his company are hiding terrible secrets as her life is turned upside down.
