Following medical advice from her doctors to rest for two weeks, the Queen has been forced to cancel her upcoming engagements, including an appearance at Glasgow's COP26 climate change conference.
Her Majesty may be currently be restricted to undertaking light, desk-based duties, but a gold medal-winning Olympian has revealed that the Queen has a secret desire to become a gymnast!
After hosting a Buckingham Palace reception in 2016, Her Majesty showed her appreciation for Olympians.
During a conversation with diver Tom Daley, the monarch joked that she should take up gymnastics.
“She commented on her height compared to some of the other athletes in the room and because me and the other athletes were quite small, she said, ‘Maybe I should try gymnastics’,” said Tom.
“She was fully game to get involved in the sport.”
And it seems that this isn’t the only time that the 95 year old has spoken about her love for the sport.
While presenting an MBE to Team GB’s most successful Olympic gymnast, Max Whitlock, she mentioned that she was a big fan of watching the team and that she “loved watching the gymnastics because the stuff that we do doesn't seem possible”.
He added: “It was pretty cool to hear the Queen say she likes the sport.”
Though surprising, the Queen is known to be into her sports, even being a patron of the Highland games event the Annual Braemar Gathering.
Despite her age, she enjoys riding her horses as often as she can – though following her recent hospital stint she has reportedly had to press pause on this pastime.
And she’s not the only member of the Royal Family who has shown their sporty side.
Princess Anne is now President of the British Olympic Association and competed at the 1976 Olympics in the equestrian while Zara Tindall won a silver medal in 2012 team eventing.
Appearing on BBC Documentary ‘Sue Barker: Our Wimbledon' the Duchess of Cambridge revealed that her dream job was to become a professional tennis player.
“Every time Wimbledon is on, I am thinking, 'Yes, I could do the same’ and get out the racket. Sadly, not the same results,” she said.
In fact, earlier this year, Duncan Larcombe told OK! that Kate looked ‘starstruck’ while meeting British US Open champion Emma Raducanu.
“Kate is human and despite the incredible things she does in her career, she's still capable of feeling blown away and starstruck and she genuinely looked that in Emma's presence,” he said.
