Christine Bracher, creative director of the family’s Paspaley pearling empire, settled on an $8.01 million home in Paddington this week as a downsize from her recently sold $16.75 million digs in Bellevue Hill.
Despite the big-ticket result, this is not one of the suburb’s grand Victorian terraces. Instead, it is a 40 year-old house designed by architect Espie Dods, set on a cul-de-sac laneway behind a diminutive facade that fans out to a 380 square metre block that was sold off-market by The Agency’s Ben Collier.

A rifle through historic records shows the late adman Alan Morris and Allan Johnston owned it for a couple of years when they launched their Mojo agency, which was widely regarded as the hottest in town in the 1980s.
It last traded in 1992 for $765,000 when sold by company interests of the Arnotts biscuit family to Katharine Forster and Chief Justice of the Federal Court James Allsop, and owned by Forster and Emma Forbes since 2017.

That North Bondi house was one of the lauded boomtime sales of 2021 when it was sold for $11.235 million – almost double the $6.3 million paid for it a few years earlier.
The couple is now Bellevue Hill-based thanks to their $30 million purchase two years ago from fashion designer-turned-lifestyle blogger Stephanie Conley-Buhre.
It goes to auction on April 1 through The Agency’s Steven Chen and Ben Collier.
Still with the April Fool’s Day auction plans, former Bondi Rescue lifesaver Bobby “Yak” Yaldwyn has listed his three-level semi in nearby North Bondi for about $4.5 million.

The landmark Tamarama house was listed for $8.5 million and sold for $9 million.
The 34-year-old director of the Australian Museum Foundation purchased the four-bedroom house from paediatric cardiologist Peter Robinson and his wife Kathleen after it was listed for $8.5 million by Ballard’s James Ball and Richardson & Wrench’s Jason Boon.
The progeny of some of Australia’s wealthiest families have shown a penchant for Tamarama real estate in recent years, with the likes of Joshua Lowy buying for $16.35 million and Justin Topper, of the AI Topper hides family, buying an excavated site for $13.25 million.
Bushwalker-turns-house hunter
Remuneration expert John Egan stumbled upon the heritage garden, known as The Braes, while bushwalking in Leura with his sons in the 1990s and couldn’t resist it: he paid $725,000 for it in 1996.
The Braes is the privately owned, heritage garden designed by landscaper Paul Sorensen.
The garden was designed by acclaimed landscaper Paul Sorensen in the 1940s thanks to a commission by Dr Geoffrey Hagarty, and is now regarded as one of the largest private gardens in the Blue Mountains.

The founder and chairman of governance consultancy Egan Associates and his wife Margot then built the first of two residences on title in 2002, and a second followed about eight years ago, offering the couple a home away from their Manly home.
Ray White Double Bay’s Nic Krasnostein has the listing.
Byron flippers
The Byron Bay holiday home of David Dawson, of executive search firm Primary Asset Consulting, is back up for grabs less than two years after he bought it for $6.87 million.
The Wategos Beach house was last owned by former Young Rich Lister Robert Bates and his then wife Emma Gibson, before the couple separated and Bates took up with his new beau Francesca Packer Barham.
Dawson has updated the house during his brief ownership, landscaping and securing DA approval for a pool, before he handed the listing to McGrath’s William Phillips and Atlas’s Michael Coombs.
A guide of $9.5 million has been set ahead of an April 15 auction.
Dawson last year traded up his Mosman home, selling for $8.55 million to buy at Chinaman’s Beach for $16.6 million from Alchemy Partners chief Neil Livesey and his wife Jane.
