Pet sitter names the four surprising dog breeds she would never own: ‘People are going to think I’m crazy’
- A pet sitter revealed the four dog breeds she refuses to ever adopt
- The list included popular family breeds Golden Retrievers and Beagles
A pet sitter and boarding kennel worker has revealed the four dog breeds she would never own and why – including some family favourites.
A woman, from the US, spends most of her home and work life looking after various dog breeds.
But not all dogs are man’s best friend – and she caused a debate after saying she ‘refuses’ to adopt certain breeds.
The pet minder claimed she would never own a Pug because of their breathing issues or a Beagle due to their intense need of mental and physical stimulation.
She also advises against Golden Retrievers as the popular dogs have been so ‘overbred’ that they are ‘essentially dumpster fires’, and in the last spot is a golden doodle because ‘all of them have problems’.

Pugs
Pugs were first on her list of dogs she never wanted to own.
The flat-face breed is widely known to also suffer from spinal issues, skin problems, and eye problems.
Some Pugs have also had their eyes pop out of their shallow eye sockets in the past.
‘I just feel so bad for any existing Pug,’ the dog lover said in a video. ‘Their whole existence is basically hell. In their tiny little skull, they have as many teeth as a fully grown Rottweiler.’
‘Half the time, most of these dogs can’t even breathe. It’s just awful. Why put them through that just because they’re cute?’
A vet also revealed that over 50 per cent of Pugs have to have a caesarean to give birth.
Beagles
The second dog the pet sitter would never own is a Beagle – though this aversion does not stem from any ethical issues with the breed.
‘Every single Beagle I’ve met is a great dog,’ she assured her audience.
‘I just personally would not be able to give this dog the life that it deserves. I don’t have time to give it the mental stimulation it needs.’
Beagles are wonderful pets for people who are extremely active as the breed requires a lot of supervision.
As natural hunting dogs, Beagles have a lot of pent-up energy that needs to be released.
A lack of exercise and activity can lead to unwanted behaviours like biting and chewing – in addition to health issues such as obesity.

Golden retrievers
The pet sitter’s main problem with Golden Retrievers stems from their popularity.
‘People are going to think I’m crazy for this one,’ the dog sitter said about her third least-favourite breed.
‘Honestly, they’ve been so overbred that most of them are dumpster fighters by this point.’
In line with her claim, an official puppy training organisation claimed that most Golden Retrievers no longer have the stable temperament that they’re known for due to overbreeding and inbreeding.
Goldendoodles
The last spot on the kennel worker’s list is the Goldendoodle – which is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle.
‘If you know anything about dogs, you know this isn’t an actual breed,’ she said.
‘Every single one that I have ever met has issues.’
Because Goldendoodles are bred, they are more likely to have structural, temperament, and health issues if done by an unprofessional breeder.
Many of them have severe separation anxiety and can get aggressive when left alone for long periods of time.

Many disagreed with the woman’s opinions and rushed to the defence of certain dog breeds.
‘I have a Goldendoodle and he’s the sweetest dog I’ve ever owned.’
‘My Golden Retriever is the best dog I’ve ever had. The most naturally well behaved dog I’ve ever met.’
But others agreed with her about Goldendoodles – especially veterinary technicians.
‘Goldendoodles are always psychopaths,’ one said. ‘I’m a vet tech and we have to muzzle nearly every golden that comes to my job.’
‘They always ‘never have issues’ until you leave them at a kennel overnight and they turn demonic bc you haven’t socialised them.’
