Photographs have emerged showing makeshift garden beds on their dashboards or cup holders – complete with dirt, indoor plants, pebbles, and mini statues.

But not everyone is on board with the strange trend, with many pointing out the cactuses could be a serious problem if the airbags deploy during a car accident.

‘Great idea until you have a crash and the airbags go off and you end up covered in cactus thorn,’ one wrote, while another said: ‘Imagine getting in an accident and the first thing you see is cactus coming right at you instead of an airbag.’

One person joked: ‘Imagine getting in car accident and your passenger gets killed by a succulent claymore,’ while another added: ‘Good way to get gravel rash in a car accident.’

Many described the trend as ‘ridiculous’ and ‘stupid’ while one woman suggested: ‘Brake hard and then spend forever trying to get gravel out your heater.’

However, others saw the amusing side to the ‘cardening’.

‘That’s one way to stop passengers putting their feet up on your dashboard,’ one wrote, while another joked: ‘Yes more places for my plant collection, I’m running out of space inside my home.’

‘That light bulb moment you realise you’ve been missing a major opportunity to expand into the carden,’ a plant business joked.
