Prince Charles reportedly "shellshocked" by William and Harry's rift

‘Shellshocked’ Prince Charles is still ‘hurt and upset’ by the rift between William and Harry and the brothers ‘didn’t have time to heal’ at Prince Philip’s funeral, sources tell People

Prince Charles has been left ‘shellshocked’ by the reported rift between his sons Prince William and Prince Harry, a source has claimed.

While the funeral of their grandfather Prince Philip in April reunited the family for the first time in a year, the Duke of Cambridge, 39, and the Duke of Sussex, 36, reportedly ‘didn’t have time to heal’ – and are set to be reunited once again for the Diana statue unveiling on Thursday 1 July.

It comes in the aftermath of Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive two-hour CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey which aired in March, where the royal made reference to his relation with William amid reports the brothers had fallen out in the wake of Brexit.

Prince Harry told the talk show host: ‘As I’ve said before, I love William to bits. He’s my brother. ‘We’ve been through hell together. I mean, we have a shared experience. But we’re on different paths.

But while the meeting may help the brothers reunite, according to People, the Prince of Wales, 72, has been left privately devastated by their alleged fallout.

‘He is very hurt and upset,’ a friend of Charles told the magazine, adding that he feels ‘shellshocked by it all.’

On Thursday, Prince William and Harry’s father, the Prince of Wales, is reportedly not planning to be around during the Duke of Sussex’s visit.

‘Charles has made it quite clear he will not be around beyond that because he is going to Scotland. There is no planned meeting between the three of them,’ a source told The Sun. ‘Charles will leave the boys to it.’

Instead, Kate Middleton is set to help Prince William and Prince Harry put on a united front when they meet at an unveiling of a statue to Princess Diana, according to reports.

The Duchess of Cambridge reportedly agreed to attend the ceremony at Kensington Palace next Thursday.

An insider said the 39-year-old had seen the project since the beginning and would want to be there to support her husband.

It comes after it was claimed Kate and William did not have a sit-down conversation with Harry after Prince Philip’s funeral in April because they feared details would be leaked.

Royal historian Robert Lacey said the chat did not happened because the Cambridges were worried their comments would be given to the US press

The three of them are reportedly going to talk together on what would have been the Princess of Wales’ 60th birthday.

Harry and William will make separate speeches as they pay tribute to their mother’s legacy.

They will also thank sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley for creating the statue, which has been in progress since 2017.

A royal source told the Mirror: ‘The Duchess has seen this project evolve from its conception and now to the finished article and undoubtedly wants to be there to support her husband.

‘No doubt there will be tensions between the Cambridges and Harry, but they all recognise that despite the obvious and deep rooted issues between them, they want the day to be solely about the Princess of Wales’s enduring legacy.’

While the family were reunited at the funeral of their grandfather Prince Philip, the publication reports little progress was made towards reuniting the brothers.

‘Everyone was optimistic,’ a source close to the royal household told People. ‘But nothing really happened.’

Although Harry and William did have a face-to-face conversation, another source claimed ‘there was not really any time to build bridges.’

The Diana statue was commissioned to mark the twentieth anniversary of Princess Diana’s death and recognise her positive impact in the UK and around the world.

It will be installed in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace on 1st July 2021, marking The Princess’s 60th birthday.

The brothers announced the commission of the statue two years ago on the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, and the initiative is one of their few remaining join ventures after a rift between the siblings and Harry’s move to the US.

The statue’s sculptor, Ian Rank-Broadley, is most recognised for his depiction of the Queen, which has appeared on all coins in the UK and Commonwealth since 1998.

He also designed a gold coin marking the Queen’s diamond jubilee in 2012.
