Prince Charles, 72, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, 74, carried out a whistlestop tour of Devon and Cornwall this week at the same time news Prince Harry, 36, is due to write a deeply personal memoir about his royal upbringing broke. On Wednesday Charles seemed to show resilience despite the ongoing drama as he and Camilla met members of the public in Bideford, a body language expert has claimed.

Charles and Camilla were all smiles as they attended a gathering of the town’s community groups and young people in Victoria Park on the final day of their three-day visit.

Clarence House shared a picture of the couple on the last day of their trip on Twitter.

The caption read: “Today is the final day of the visit to Devon and Cornwall and Their Royal Highnesses are in North Devon”

Body language expert and author Judi James analysed the latest photos of Camilla and Charles and shared her insights.

According to the expert, Charles seemed to want to show his stiff upper lip and beamed while meeting members of the public.

She told Express.co.uk: “After a day of slightly less assured body language following the announcement about Harry’s upcoming ‘intimate’ book, Charles looks set to prove his emotional resilience here, joking and laughing and enjoying the sun.”

The future king broke with his traditional royal mannerisms as he crouched down to chat to children, Judi explained.

She added: “He even steps out of his traditionally more formal approach in terms of body language mirroring or matching by crouching right down onto the ground to play with some smaller children.”

This departure from formal ways should be seen as significant, Judi claimed.

She said: “This amount of effort from one of the more regal members of the Firm shouldn’t be underestimated as it looks like a move to create more active empathy and rapport in the style of William and Kate.”

Charles seemed “determined” to ignore his “inner emotions” during his latest outing, Judi claimed.

She said: “Whatever his inner emotions, Charles looks determined to shrug off any possible cloud hanging over his head and show even higher levels of effort to look happy and worry-free.”

Camilla supported her husband and added glamour to the occasion, Judi said.

She added: “Camilla’s stylish shades add a touch of glamour here and she shows herself to be pretty nifty with the parasol as well.”

In a statement announcing his personal memoir, Harry said: “I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man, I have become.

“I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story – the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned – I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.”

The Duke added: “I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a first-hand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”

And Harry’s publishers said: “In an intimate and heartfelt memoir from one of the most fascinating and influential global figures of our time, Prince Harry will share, for the very first time, the definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses and life lessons that have helped shape him.

“Covering his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the frontlines of Afghanistan, and the joy he has found in being a husband and father, Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait, one that shows readers that behind everything they think they know lies an inspiring, courageous, and uplifting human story.”
