Following the announcement of Prince Philip’s death on April 9, 2021, several details about the Duke of Edinburgh‘s funeral were released. With the service set to take place April 17 at St. George’s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle many royal fans began to wonder when Prince Harry would travel back to the U.K. and where he would he stay once he got there.
Here’s more on that and why the Duke of Sussex may not be back with his wife and son in California for a month.
Prince Harry will have to quarantine before funeral
Prince Harry is back in the U.K. for the first time since stepping back from royal duties over a year ago.
The Sun reported that the duke was spotted at London’s Heathrow Airport after taking a British Airways flight from Los Angeles on April 11. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, who is pregnant with the couple’s second child, did not make the trip with her husband as she has been advised by doctors not to fly.
The BBC noted that the prince has to follow the government’s coronavirus travel rules which means he will have to quarantine for 10 days. However, he is permitted to leave isolation after five days if he provides a negative test under the government’s “Test to Release” system but he must quarantine while awaiting the result.
Where the duke is staying
The publication also noted the per the government’s guidelines mourners traveling from abroad can leave their place of quarantine “in limited circumstances including on compassionate grounds (such as a funeral).” Ahead of that event travelers should isolate in their own home or in a hotel or other form of temporary accommodation.
So where is Prince Harry staying?
Sources previously said that the Duke of Sussex would be quarantining at Nottingham Cottage on the same grounds of the Kensington Palace residence where Prince William and his family live. But royal commentator Omid Scobie tweeted on Monday that Harry was isolating at Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Castle estate.
Harry may not see Meghan and Archie for a month
At this time it’s not known how long Harry will remain in the U.K. following his grandfather’s funeral but he could be away from his wife and young son for a month. That depends on whether or not he is vaccinated and if he follows the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.
Per the CDC guidelines unvaccinated people should self-isolate at home for seven days after domestic travel and 14 days for international travel. They should also avoid being around anyone who is at an increased risk for severe illness. The CDC notes that pregnant women are at an increased risk for severe illness from SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to non-pregnant women.
