Prince William has been in the royal family since he was born. His wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, married into the royal family in 2011 and has since been a working royal as well.
While William and Kate often put on happy faces in public, Prince Harry once claimed they feel “trapped” in the royal family. However, a recent move made by the Cambridges might be a way to debunk this claim.
Prince Harry said his brother is ‘trapped’ in the royal family
In March, fans watched as Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex had a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey. The couple made headlines for sharing grievances they had with the royal family, including claims of racism.
During one part of the interview, Harry also shared he felt “trapped” as a royal and that Meghan helped him step back from that life.
“I myself was trapped as well. I didn’t see a way out,” he said. “I was trapped, but I didn’t know I was trapped.
Then, Harry also commented on his family members’ situation, saying, “My father and my brother – they are trapped. They don’t get to leave and I have huge compassion for that.”
Prince William and Kate Middleton debunked this claim with a new video
William has not publicly responded to Harry’s claim. However, he and Kate recently released a video to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary, and it shows a family that is the opposite of “trapped.”
In the short clip, William, Kate, and their three children are seen having fun together. They walk on a beach, play on a seesaw, and roast marshmallows.
“This film seems to fly in the face of Harry’s recent claims about William being ‘trapped’ in the royal family and unable to act freely,” body language expert Judi James said, according to the Daily Mail. “The playful, outdoor behaviour here is all about freedom of both actions and emotions and the three children look wonderfully uninhibited as they run about having fun.”
Sources said Prince William does not feel ‘trapped’
People close to the royal family have also come forward to speak about Harry’s claim that William is “trapped.”
Royal author Katie Nicholl told ET after the interview with Oprah, “We’re hearing reports that Prince William felt quite affronted by the claims that Harry made in the interview… We’ve also heard through friends of William who have spoken to the newspapers over here that he really rejects that suggestion from his brother that he feels ‘trapped’ by the firm, that he feels trapped by his future role.”
Meanwhile, another insider also told something similar to The Times. According to the source, William is “completely accepting” of the fact that he is an heir to the throne and future king.
“He is very much his grandmother’s grandson in that respect of duty and service,” the insider said.
