Queen Letizia of Spain looked glamorous in an all-red ensemble as she attended a literary event in Madrid on Thursday evening.

The royal, 50, oozed sophistication as she stepped out alongside her husband King Felipe for the event which was held to commemorate the centenary of the first Casa Del Libro bookshop.

Mother-of-two Letizia turned heads in a scarlet long-sleeved top and matching tailored trousers.

She completed her ensemble with silver stilettos and a matching sparkling clutch bag.

Her brunette locks were styled in loose curls and her glamorous makeup enhanced her naturally flawless complexion.

King Felipe looked typically smart in a black suit which he paired with a white shirt and pink tie.

Casa del Libro, the Grupo Planeta bookstore chain, was founded in 1923 and acquired by the Group in 1992.

In 1999 it had four bookstores and it now has 47 bookstores distributed throughout the Iberian Peninsula.

The appearance comes after Letizia donned a chic black dress as she attended events for the inauguration of the IX International Congress of the Spanish Language earlier this week.

The royal was effortlessly elegant as she and King Felipe arrived at the Gran Teatro Falla in Cádiz.

Her chic Hugo Boss gown featured fishnet detailing along the neckline, and fanned out into stylish tasselled sleeves which draped over her arms.

For that event, the mother-of-two – who has recently divided opinion by letting her natural greys show – opted to style her tresses into a bun.

She carried a black clutch bag and teamed the ensemble with slingback stilettos.

Letizia wore long, ornate statement earrings and kept her make-up look glamorous with a smoky eye.

Elsewhere, Felipe cut a dapper silhouette in a pinstripe suit and blue tie, smiling as he made the appearance with his wife.

The European royals looked to be in high spirits as they attended the congress, during which attendees reflected on ‘the reality of Spanish, its past, its present and its future, under the motto ‘Spanish language, miscegenation and interculturality. History and future’.

The Spanish king had made a speech celebrating ‘the great Hispanic convocation’.

And earlier in the week, the queen made another chic appearance, donning a form-fitting lilac dress as she attended a conference in Cadiz with King Felipe.

The queen was all smiles as she opted for the statement frock, which boasted a plunging V-neck.

Along with ruching around the bust, the midi-dress also featured slightly puffed sleeves and a thigh-high split up the front.

In keeping with her Spring-like attire, Letizia accessorised her frock with a small £110 leather handbag by Spanish brand Olivia Mareque in the exact same shade of lilac.

But rather than keeping for the thick leather lilac strap that comes with the bag, Letizia opted for a £26 alternative featuring two dainty leather knots on either side.

Allowing her gown to take centre stage, Letizia finished off her ensemble with a pair of nude patent slingback heels by Venezuelan designer Carolina Herrera.
