Rebecca Ferguson will star in a series adaptation of Hugh Howey’s “Wool,” which has been ordered to series at Apple.
“Wool” is a set in a ruined and toxic future where a community exists in a giant silo underground, hundreds of stories deep. There, men and women live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them. Ferguson will star as Juliette, an independent and hardworking engineer.
Graham Yost will write and executive produce the adaptation, with Ferguson executive producing in addition to starring. Morten Tyldum will direct and executive produce. Howey, Remi Aubuchon, Nina Jack, and Ingrid Escajeda will also executive produce. The series hails from AMC Studios.
“Wool” was originally a standalone short story released online. After the first self-published story became an online sensation, Howey then published a series of stories continuing the journey in subsequent books in what became the “Silo” series: “Wool,” “Shift,” and “Dust.”
This is now the second attempt to develop a TV series based on “Wool.” Variety exclusively reported in 2018 that AMC was developing a “Wool” series, with LaToya Morgan attached to write. 20th Century Studios (formerly 20th Century Fox) had also previously acquired the movie rights to “Wool,” with Ridley Scott and Steve Zaillian attached as producers.
Ferguson will next be seen in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune,” with film set to drop in October, as well as “Reminiscence” with Hugh Jackman, which will debut in August. The latter film marks Ferguson’s second collaboration with Jackman after “The Greatest Showman.” Ferguson’s other roles include the “Mission Impossible” franchise, “Doctor Sleep,” and “The Snowman.”
She is repped by ICM Partners and Tavistock Wood.
With the series order for “Wool,” Yost now has three projects in the works at Apple. The others are the World War II drama series “Masters of the Air” and the spy drama “Slow Horses.” Yost is a writer and co-executive producer on the former project and an executive producer on the latter. Yost is perhaps best known for developing the FX series “Justified,” with Variety exclusively reporting in March that he and several members of the “Justified” team are reuniting for a new series at the cabler.
He is repped by CAA and Morris Yorn
