Royal family members who have borrowed something special from The Queen including Kate’s tiara

When it comes to The Royal Family, we are all a little obsessed with their effortless style choices.

However, there is one reigning champion (quite literally) that takes home the crown for being the one that the younger members all turn to and that is none other than Queen Elizabeth herself.

When it comes to jewels and accessories, we see the likes of Kate Middleton rush to borrow Her Majesty’s most admired items to add the perfect finishing touches to their outfits.

Not only are they from The Queen’s archives but they also withhold such sentimental value.

So to celebrate Her Majesty’s 69th year anniversary of being on the throne, we thought we would take a look back at some of the times that she has gifted or allowed others to borrow her favourite items.

We are accustomed to seeing the younger royals borrowing jewellery from The Queen, however, there was one special occasion that saw one Royal member borrow a prized piece of clothing.

On the 17 July Princess Beatrice, 31, married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 37, in a small ceremony at the Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor and she opted to wear a beautifully beaded vintage gown by Norman Hartnell which The Queen originally wore to a state dinner in 1961 and then again at a film premier in London in 1962.

As well as this, Beatrice wore Queen Mary’s diamond fringe tiara which was also worn by The Queen on her own wedding day back in 1947 to Prince Phillip.

Princess Anne was the only other person to wear this on her wedding day to Mark Phillips in November 1973.

Another special event which saw the bride borrow a piece from Her Majesty was on Kate Middleton’s wedding to Prince William in April 2011.

Wearing her elegant lace gown by Alexander McQueen, the intricate dress was finished off perfectly with the Cartier Halo Tiara.

The sparkling diadem was gifted to Queen Elizabeth on her 18th birthday by her father, King George VI.

Other members of the Royal family such as Princess Margaret and Princess Anne were seen sporting the tiara on multiple occasions.

Another tiara of The Queen’s which we have seen The Duchess of Cambridge sport on two occasions is the Lotus Flower Tiara which is occasionally referred to also as the Papyrus Tiara.

Kate first wore this in December 2013 during an event at Buckingham Palace and then again in October 2015 at a state banquet in honour of the president of China.

Despite The Queen herself not pictured wearing the twinkling item, The Queen Mother and Princess Maragaret were fans of the piece.

One of, if not the most favourite tiara in which Kate has been pictured wearing on many occasions is none other than the Lover’s Knot Tiara.

Kate was first seen sporting the impeccable diadem in December 2015 and since then has worn it nearly every year to the annual Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace.

The Lover’s Knot Tiara was given to Princess Diana on a permanent loan by Her Majesty until her untimely death in 1997.

The Queen originally inherited the diamond and pearl tiara in 1953 when her grandmother Queen Mary died.

In October 2018, Kate wore the tiara with the Queen Alexandra Wedding Necklace which was a favourite of The Queen Mother’s.

Recently during Kate and William’s Royal tour of Scotland, we saw The Duchess step out in a flawless blue tartan trench coat, but what really stole the show were the glittering blue diamond earrings.

This pair of jewels are named The Dubai Looped Sapphire Demi-Parure earrings which were gifted to Her Majesty during a tour of the Middle East in 1979.

Even the iconic Princess Diana and Sophie, The Countess of Wessex wore The Queen’s King Faisal Diamond necklace.

Queen Elizabeth was gifted this amazing necklace by King Faisal of Saudi Arabia in 1967 during his state visit to the UK.

Princess Diana was pictured wearing the item for a visit to Australia in 1983 and Sophie wore it at the pre-wedding dinner of the Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg in October 2012.

Another time Princess Diana wore a necklace from The Queen in 1982 when she visited the Barbican center whilst pregnant with Prince William.

The diamond and platinum necklace was originally gifted to the monarch by King Khalid of Saudi Arabia during a visit to the Middle East in 1979.

The Royals are lovers of adorning their outfits with twinkling broaches.

In 2011 we saw Kate sport the maple leaf Cartier brooch which belonged to the Queen Mother on Canada Day.

This had previously been worn by The Duchess of Cornwall in 2009 and The Queen herself during her first visit to Canada in 1951.

It’s no secret that the royals like to plan their outfits to the theme of their royal tours, so we might see Princess Charlotte wearing this brooch one day.

This pearl and triple leaf brooch is probably one of the most rarely seen brooches in The Queen’s collection.

Apart from a Royal visit to South Korea in 1999 worn by Her Majesty, it had been kept locked up until July 2017 when Kate wore it to mark the 100th anniversary of Passchendaele in Belgium.

For the 70th wedding anniversary dinner for The Queen and Prince Phillip, Kate paid homage to the monarch by wearing the four-strand pearl choker.

The necklace was created by Queen Elizabeth using pearls gifted to her from the Japanese government.

This was worn again by Kate to pay another tribute to Her Majesty at the funeral of her husband, Prince Phillip.

Princess Diana also borrowed the piece to wear at a state banquet for the Netherlands in 1982.

By now it is clear that Kate loves to pay tribute to The Queen by borrowing some of her most sentimental items.

So as we see The Royals continue to carry out their duties, we can’t wait to see what other jewels will be worn.
