Hip-hop legend Darryl McDaniels and DJ Charlie Chan of Run-D.M.C. got a crowd of socialites singing and dancing on stage in Aspen this weekend at the Fire and Ice Gala.
Host, socialite Amy Green — who threw the event with her husband, sports teams owner Gary — got on stage with fellow female attendees to show off their moves to songs like “It’s Tricky.”
McDaniels was the ultimate hype man, telling the crowd of the legendary group’s name (which actually stands for members names or Devastating Mic Controller): “Sometimes I tell [people it’s for] Darryl makes cash, or Darryl makes cookies, or sometimes Darryl makes comics.”
He also told a story about a stalker they had in 1986 while on tour with LL Cool J, the Beastie Boys and rap group, Whodini, saying the crazed woman followed them to 13 cities before he politely told her to back off.
“She pointed and did this mean old laugh,” he said. “If you wake up tomorrow morning and the paper says ‘Rapper DMC found in a pool of blood in his hotel room,’ don’t let my murder go unsolved.”
The event, which saw guests like Surf Lodge’s Jayma Cardoso and Antonio DiOronzo, influencer Erica Pelosini, Casa Del Sol head Steph Sebagg, and socialites Maria Buccellati and Dori Cooperman, took place on top of Ajax mountain at the members only club, ASPENX, with guests being taken up in a gondola fitted with blankets and greeted by fire performers.
The event raised $1 million for the 100 Billion Meals initiative, spearheaded by Tony Robbins.
The night before, Run DMC performed during a gala pre-party at the chic Snow Lodge at the St. Regis hotel, which had fans standing on tables.
A spy tells us it’s become the rage to take a picture of one of the restaurant’s sheep sculptures, which just made headlines in Page Six when one was stolen by an over-served patron.
The day after the gala, DJ duo Bedouin took over the spot for apres ski.
