The Duchess of York (pictured) was discussing her debut novel which was co-written with Marguerite Kaye
The Duchess of York’s Her Heart For A Compass, which draws on Sarah’s own life journey and incorporates research into her ancestry, is a fictional account of the life of the duchess’s great-great-aunt Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas-Scott.
It was co-written with Marguerite Kaye, who has written more than 50 historical romances set in a variety of eras.
However, it received mostly negative reviews in the press after hitting the shelves in August.
Critics branded the book ‘boring’ and a ‘slog’ with an ‘insipid’ main character and a tone that jumps between ‘archaic and contemporary’. Almost all commented on the lack of sex and said it was at the ‘PG end’ of Mills & Boon.
But at the time, Sarah said she and co-author Margarete Kaye, who has written more than 60 books, remained ‘unified’ behind the work.
She is due to publish her second historical romance novel, which will again be co-written with Kaye, in 2022.
