Sophie, Countess of Wessex, 56, and Prince Edward, also 56, tied the knot in Windsor Castle in 1999 after announcing their engagement just months before. The couple are both senior working members of the Royal Family and regularly attend events and engagements.

The couple met in 1993 and have been together ever since.

They also have two children, Lady Louise Windsor, 17, and James Viscount Severn, 13, who are seen with their parents from time to time.

While the family keep their life quite private, their roles within the Firm mean they will often appear at events with other members of the Royal Family.

Sophie will also present awards on behalf of the Monarch.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, body language expert Judi James explained what the Countess’ body language shows in her professional opinion.

The expert said: “Like Kate, Sophie appears to be able to wear a sustained and congruent, or authentic-looking smile on every royal engagement, although Sophie uses some small cues and techniques that create a very individual, signature look.

“Sophie’s smile is wide but not over-performed as it only reveals the upper teeth, and the corners of her mouth are often pulled down slightly to suggest emotions like caring and empathy.

“A dazzling style of royal smile would entail more teeth and symmetry but Sophie’s is a little more mature and complex.

“Her cheeks are slightly rounded and her eyes are crinkled in an eye-smile that also appears to signal kindness more than just happiness and fun.

“She also has a hint of a dimple, which often makes a person popular as it tends to be a signal of frequent smiling rather than just performed or ‘flash’ social smiling.”

Sophie has been a part of the Royal Family for more than 20 years, meaning she is well used to her role now.

However, like many other royals, they have had to swap in-person meetings for virtual video calls.

Judi added that some of Sophie’s signals show is relaxed and passionate about her role as a working member of the Firm.

“Sophie usually combines a head-tilt to the side with her mouth-smile and this would add to the impression of empathy as well as looking like an offer to listen to the people she is meeting,” the expert explained.

Judi added: “These smile rituals also make her look relaxed, suggesting some genuine passion about her work as part of the royal Firm.”

The royal’s most recent appearance came on Monday when she appeared virtually to mark both Commonwealth Day and International Women’s Day.

She spoke to three women from around the Commonwealth to discuss how important it is to support one another.

What did Judi think of her body language?

The expert said: “Sophie’s rather lengthy appearance during the Commonwealth Celebrations did seem to reflect the level of esteem she is held in by the Queen currently.

“She also created a similar on-screen presence to the Queen in terms of body language and mood, with both women seen on video calls wearing smiles of pure keenness and delight and creating a very motivational presence via some keen active listening signals.

“Sophie also appeared alone on her call and her enthusiastic body language and her knowledge of her subject and ability to voice opinions with confidence but without sounding opinionated made her look and sound inspirational and engaging here.”
