Sports Illustrated babe went from working in Covid ward to becoming bikini model

A model who has worked on the frontline to fight against coronavirus has revealed her latest photoshoot with Sports Illustrated.

Maggie Rawlins, 28, was working in a medical facility in New York, US, before she got a call to model for the magazine.

The registered nurse has modelled for lingerie brand Intimissimi and even made the front covers of Elle Croatia in October.

Now she has opened up about her "obstacles" last year when she was offered to pose for Sports Illustrated.

She told New York Post: "I was working in LA and I booked a flight back [to South Carolina] thinking it would be a month or so.

"I had the skill set as a nurse and it was a responsibility more than anything else.

"You just hit the ground running. There were a lot of obstacles."

At the time, Maggie claims her colleagues and patients weren't aware of her day job, but it wouldn't have been a big deal.

The model began her career as a teenager but always wanted to become a nurse, like her grandmother.

After finishing school, she worked as a hematology oncology nurse when a modelling agency reached out to her.

Maggie recalled: "At first I thought it was a bit of a scam, but my nurse manager said to go for it."

"She said to keep my licence active and if I didn't like it, I could always return."

She maintained her status by volunteering with OneWorld Health and travelling to countries in Africa to work as a triage nurse.

But in December, Maggie got the call to possibly pose for the prestigious bikini magazine.

She detailed: "I had no idea I was even on SI's radar. I got a call from my agent saying I was up for it.

"Then two hours later, he said, 'You're confirmed for Sports Illustrated, and you're shooting in three weeks'."

It was then when Maggie had to quickly bounce back into shape, doing a lot of at-home Pilates and workouts.

Meanwhile, Maggie isn't the first model who has worked on the frontline in the fight against coronavirus.

Former Playboy babe Danielle Lupo, 25, ditched modelling to become a frontline worker in recent months.

She has been in the healthcare field for 10 years while juggling a career in modelling for magazines like Playboy.

Danielle first gained recognition for her spreads in various publications and later earned Miss May Playmate in 2018.

And she's not just beauty but brains too as the ex-model is also a certified cardiographic technician (CCT).
