Tesco outline their latest shopping measures ahead of lockdown
Supermarkets all have different rules to follow which can be extremely confusing. The latest rules implemented in the majority of supermarkets include shopping alone to help reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus. Customers can face being banned from stores if they are not shopping for essentials alone.
Coronavirus restrictions are in place across the UK which means that the majority of shops are closed for the foreseeable future.
Supermarkets however, have been open since the pandemic began because they are classed as essential shops.
With the retailers having different guidelines, it can be hard to know what the shopping rules are.
Each supermarket regularly updates their guidance online with their most recent rule asking customers to shop alone.

Tesco
Supermarket giant Tesco is still asking customers to visit in-store if they can to help free up online delivery slots.
To help more people shop at any one time, many of the stores have extended their opening hours but is asking shoppers to shop alone.
Tesco said: “Please shop alone unless you’re a carer or with children. We also encourage you to only shop when you need to, in line with government guidance to stay at home.”
Couples and large families should not travel to the supermarket together and risk being banned if doing so.
There is also a one-in, one-out policy to help manage the number of people in-store at any one time.
This means queues might be likely during peak times and should head to the supermarket during quieter hours.
Customers who refuse to wear a face mask will also be banned.
The supermarket said: “To protect our colleagues and customers, we won’t let anyone into our stores who isn’t wearing a face covering, unless they’re exempt in line with government guidance.”

Sainsbury’s

The retailer said: “To help manage the number of customers allowed in our stores you must also shop on your own, this will help make your shop quicker.
“We will also challenge customers who are shopping in groups.”
Sainsbury’s told Express.co.uk that children continue to be welcome if they’re unable to be left in the care of another adult at home.
Like Tesco, the supermarket is also challenging customers who enter the supermarket without a face mask.
Sainsbury’s explained: “To keep our customers and colleagues safe when shopping in our stores you must wear a mask or visor unless you have a medical exemption.
“Security guards will support our colleagues at the front of store and will challenge customers who are not wearing masks.”
Morrisons
Morrisons is also banning customers who aren’t wearing a face mask while shopping.
While they have no current guidance on shopping alone, the supermarket has several rules in place that customers need to follow.
Morrisons has stated that sanitisers will be available to help shoppers clean trolley and basket handles.
Colleagues will also be wearing face masks in the supermarket and ask customers to keep a two metre distance.
The retailer also has expanded its Click and Collect service for those who can’t make it to the shop.
The service is also available without an additional delivery charge and is contact-free.
Customers can also pick a time slot that best suits them.
Aldi
Aldi CEO, Giles Hurley regularly updates customers in an email with the current rules in-store.
In the most recent letter, Mr Hurley outlined that customers should try to shop alone.
It read: “In order to help with social distancing, we are encouraging all customers to try and reduce the number of family members they bring with them into our stores.
“Where necessary we are using discretion, but like all supermarkets we’re asking people to come alone if possible to support social distancing in our stores.”
Customers will also be challenged if they are not wearing a mask as it is now mandatory across all stores.
